COMMENT: Solar activity has been eruptive during the past 24 hours,
featuring five C flares, especially from NOAA AR 11594 and a new AR near
the eastern limb. C-level flares are expected within the next 48 hours,
with a slight chance for an M flare.
The geomagnetic field was quiet during the past 24 hours. The solar
wind velocity measured at the ACE spacecraft decreased from around 450
km/s to around 400 km/s at 16h UT on October 17 and then increased again
up to about 600 km/s. The geomagnetic activity was at quiet levels (K
Dourbes between 1 and 3; NOAA Kp between 0 and 2) during the past 24
hours. Quiet (K Dourbes < 4) geomagnetic activity is expected for
October 18, 19 and 20.
