COMMENT: An X1.4 flare with peak time 11:00 UT occurred in newly
numbered region Catania 82, which is currently turning over the east
limb of the Sun. Humain radio data show type II shock signatures around

10h40 indicating an associated CME. Due to the location of the source
region and coronagraph images from STEREO-B suggesting a halo CME, we do

not expect this CME to have strong geomagnetic effects. Numerous other

C-flares were observed yesterday and today, mainly in Catania regions
72, 80 and 82 (resp. NOAA 1295, 1301 and not numbered yet). Two M flares

occurred in Catania region 82: an M1.8 flare, peaking yesterday at 12:23

UT, and an M1.1 flare today with peak time 10:00 UT. Coronograh images

from SOHO/LASCO and STEREO/COR2 show several CMEs of which none was
earth-directed.

Geomagnetic conditions are quiet and are expected to remain so, with
possibly some periods of unsettled conditions due to a coronal hole wind

stream.
