COMMENT: Solar activity is at high levels. A class X2.1 solar X-ray
flare occurred on 2011/09/06 with peak time 22:20 UT. It was produced by

NOAA AR 11283, which has now become a beta-gamma-delta region. The flare

was accompanied by a class II radio burst and > 10MeV proton levels
rising till just below the threshold level. More M flares or even X
flares are possible from this region, with risks for proton events.
SOHO/LASCO C2 observed a halo CME on September 6 at 02:24 UT,
associated with the M5.3 flare of 01:50 UT. Another halo CME occurred on

September 6 at 22:36 UT and was caused by the X2.1 flare of 22:20 UT.
Since the bulk of the ejecta of both CMEs is directed north of the
ecliptic plane, they may cause a glancing blow. Arrival of the CMEs is

not expected before September 9, 12:00 UT. Geomagnetic conditions are
quiet so far, and are expected to remain such for the next 48 hours.

TODAY'S ESTIMATED ISN : 050, BASED ON 15 STATIONS.
