COMMENT: Catania sunspot groups 79 and 87 (NOAA ARs 1208 and 1214
respectively) produced several B-class flares in the past 24 hours. A
C-class flare in one of these active regions is probable. A filament
eruption in the northern hemisphere close to the central meridian was
detected by SDO/AIA around 3:00 UT today. It was accompanied by coronal
dimmings and a post-eruption arcade, indicating the eruption of a CME.
However, STEREO/SECCHI COR2 data showed that the CME was directed to the
north of the ecliptic plane. Its arrival at the Earth is therefore
unlikely. The Earth is currently inside a fast (around 580 km/s) solar
wind stream with average (around 5 nT) interplanetary magnetic field
magnitude. The geomagnetic conditions are expected to be quiet in the
coming hours.
TODAY'S ESTIMATED ISN : 037, BASED ON 12 STATIONS.
