COMMENT: Catania sunspot group 98 (no NOAA number yet) has just
appeared from behind the east solar limb. It produced a C1.0 flare
peaking at 13:07 UT yesterday. More C-class flares are possible in this

sunspot group. A low-latitude coronal hole in the southern hemisphere
reached the solar central meridian. We expect a fast solar wind stream

from this coronal hole to arrive at the Earth on January 17, resulting

possibly in active geomagnetic conditions. Currently the Earth is inside

an intermediate-speed (around 500 km/s) solar wind flow with average (5

nT) interplanetary magnetic field magnitude. We expect quiet geomagnetic

conditions in the next 24 hours.

TODAY'S ESTIMATED ISN : 000, BASED ON 03 STATIONS.
