COMMENT: An isolated C-class flare in one of the three sunspot groups
on the Sun (NOAA ARs 1073, 1074 and 1075) is possible but unlikely. A
solar wind discontinuity (possibly a weak shock wave) was detected by
ACE and CELIAS around 21:20 UT on May 29. Following this discontinuity,

the plasma was heated and the the interplanetary magnetic field became

oscillating, that is characteristic for post-shock sheaths. The
discontinuity also marked the end of the magnetic cloud that arrived to

ACE late on May 28. The interplanetary magnetic field is currently
elevated (around 10 nT) indicating a possible ICME structure associated

with the partial halo CME on May 24. The solar wind speed is still low

(400 - 450 km/s), so the possible ICME sheath structure produced only
active geomagnetic conditions (as reported by IZMIRAN and NOAA). The
solar wind speed increased in the last several hours. This may indicate

the imminent arrival of the fast solar wind stream from a low-latitude

extension of the northern polar coronal hole. Active geomagnetic
conditions are possible in the coming hours, with isolated minor storm

intervals possible but unlikely.

TODAY'S ESTIMATED ISN : 021, BASED ON 02 STATIONS.
