Ciao,

"Linux RMS Packet Gateway".
Sostanzialmente non ci saranno grandi novita', ma si cerchera'
di adattare il vecchio codice alle novita' di Winlink2000
cosi' come spiegate nella RoadMap.
Hans potra' avvalersi della collaborazione di un valido programmatore
americano Brian W3SG. Speriamo di poter testare la nuova versione
al piu' presto.

Riporto due mail di Hans sull'argormento:

Re: TelPac-Node/LinuX Update 1.0.5

Thanks for all feetback that I got by personal mail on my request!
I did not know that there are so many installations of the LinuX Node.

I would like to just post the result that I read from the emails:

- there is currently no need for a more comfortable webbased
configuration tool,
- a lot of servers do not have the necessary webservice running, also
no grafical userinterface,
- everything should better stay like it is, based on simple configfiles,
- the LinuX node should be able to run on a server system with simple
Telnet/SSH based terminal access.
- there should not be new requirements like X, webservice, perl etc..

I see that I am not alone with my server without X and stuff like that. :)

In the next few days a new *_aci tool will be avaiable which uses the
new RMS features. Thanks to Lee, K0KED who provided the necessary details.
Another new tool which supplies changes of local static information to
the network will follow later.
I will use this change to rename the software to "RMS Packet GateWay"
which fits better to the new concept.

LinuX RMS Packet Gateway

Good news on the LinuX software!
It will not only change functionality and name, it will also get
improved support!
Brian Eckert, W3SG will support the further development of the LinuX
software.
Brian is a professional programmer and already developed a special
version with improvements for his own station.
It surely makes no sense to go separate ways in future.
We exchanged a lot of information and I believe we have the same
goals, the same strategies, but he has more experience in coding.

Brian already prepared an update based on rev 1.0.5 with more logging
through syslogd.
I am sure LinuX users will like this features.
He will also integrate the required features for the RMS Packet Gateway.

Everything else will be kept like discussed, no extra requirements
like X, webserver, perl etc..
Brian will stay with simple tools like it was in the past.

Thanks Brain at this place for your offer to support this project and
to bring in your professional experience for the community.
