A special ARRL bulletin (ARLX013) reports:
"The FCC has authorized the Maxim Memorial Station W1AW to also use the call sign
W100AW during 2014, the ARRL's centennial year.
The "W1AW WAS" operations throughout 2014 from each of the 50 states will use W1AW, not W100AW.
Bulletins and code practice transmissions during 2014 also will still use W1AW.
Contacts with W100AW will be worth 100 points in the ARRL Centennial QSO Party.

- WIA Annual Conference - this weekend
The Wireless Institute of Australia Annual Conference
is being held on Queenslands Sunshine Coast from Friday afternoon May 16th
to Sunday evening May 18th. The event is being hosted by the Sunshine Coast Amateur Radio
Club Inc. with leadership by Richard/VK4RY and Trent/VK4TS.
Registration starts Friday afternoon at the Alexandra Heads Surf Lifesaving Club (the Alex).

- Mikes Morse Mania Display
Do you really appreciate really well preserved radio equipment ?
Mike/VK4MIK certaiMike/VK4MIK certainly does and currently has one of the most extensive collections
of morse keys and heritage equipment in the country. He regularly arranges
public displays of his collection - although due to logisitcs reasons he can only
display part of the collection at any one time.
The next Mikes Morse Mania display will be happening at the Cardwell Telegraph Museum
on Friday 30th and Saturday 31st May, and with such an extensive special display
Museum volunteers will be extending the opening hours to let as many people as
possible view 60 plus exquisitely restored morse keys and other heritage radio gear.
If you are passing through Cardwell on May 30 or 31 do drop in and see the display
and say gday to Mike and the Museum volunteers.




News from Central Queensland

- Theresa Creek Campout
The Central Highlands Amateur Radio Club is holding the famous
Theresa Creek Campout near Clermont QLD from Friday afternoon June 6th
to Monday morning June 9th at the Theresa Creek Dam Camping and
Water Sports FacilWater Sports Facility.
The camping facilities are 22km by road southwest of the Clermont CBD
and can host Caravans, Mobile Homes, Tents and Swags.
Pets are welcome,  there are Hot showers onsite, plus Toilets,
a small but mighty Kiosk and BBQ's.
It only costs $10 per site, and you can call 07 49832327 during the day for more info.

To get there -
Head southwest out of Clermont through Copperfield onto the Peakvale Road.
At approx 13km from the Clermont Showgrounds there is a turnoff to the left from the
Peakvale Road that runs for a further 6km to the Theresa Creek Dam Camping Grounds.

What to take -
BYO everything, including drinking water as there is limited tank supply at the Grounds.
The kiosk where you pay your $10 per site per night camping fee does stock essential items
and souvenirs.

What is there to do -
Well, apart from mixing with other hams and support crews and doing radio things
out in a nice family camping environment there is also Camp fires, Boating, swimming,
Fishing, Skiing, potting the eFishing, Skiing, potting the ellusive but succulent Red Claw plus lots lots more !

- TARC Social Meeting this Tuesday - at a different venue !
This Tuesday May 20th the TARC Social Evening will be happening.
Due to the on-going renovations and lack of power at the Club Rooms
(we need the mains to kick start the atom powered stapler)
the venue has again been shifted to the VK4LU QTH at West End.
Now, we are not going to put Ray's residential address across
the data networks so, if you are unsure where the VK4LU QTH is
ask a club member on-air or look up Ray in the WIA Call-book.
The meeting will be swinging along from 7-30pm.
Come along and lend a helping hand to put the magazine of renown,
Back-scatter together and socialise with fellow hams.

- TARC Does ARDF
If you are in the vicinity of the Townsville Region on Saturday June 21st
and want to get involved in a Foxhunt then Tony VK4TJS wants to hear from you.
The foxhunt will start at a secret location from 1pm and you have until 19th June to get
your attendance numbers in for the Foxhunt.
There will be activities for all family members to participate in during the
Foxhunt and things will end up with some in flight catering.
To cater for the event Tony needs to know your attendance numbers.

Whitsunday Region Endurance Riders Association Inc Euri Gold Farm Endurance Rides.
All the rides happen on the verdant slopes of Euri Gold Farm, just out of Merinda
north of Bowen North Queensland.
You are able to camp out early at Ride Base from Friday onwards.
The ride starts up on Saturday afternoon and will mainly run into the evening.
Your chance to get out into some lovely countryside, set up camp with a portable station
or three and communicate in a relaxing fashion as the horsies and riders go by, day and night.

Canteen, hot water, bbq din din plus brekkie and mod cons available at Ride Base.

Magnetic Island to Townsville Swim.
A great day out on the water (with the only positions available
on land already taken) playing with radios to the sound of Migaloo
and a hundred plus marathon swimmers thrashing across Cleveland Bay.
Main comms on VHF, with some UHF comms with clubbies and aircraft.
It is also highly recommended that operators attend the Swim Briefing
to meet the competitors, organisers and skippers.

Kennedy Region Scouts Nighthawk activity.
Your chance to make a real difference and show the youth of today how useful
AAmateur Radio can be. Teams tracking and a chance to set up portable at a spot
you would not normally go to. Arrive at Nighthawk HQ around 3pm on Saturday,
then go to your checkpoint for a night of easy operating in the field tracking
the progress of Nighthawk teams, with some in-flight entertainment as you observe
youth members try to impress the Scout Leader judges with finesse in their activity.

Townsville City Autosports Club Forest Club Rally.
Play with radios out in the field to the sound of high performance machinery.
Scribe Flying Finish times onto competitor time cards and relay safety, timing and
logistic info to and from Rally Control.
Operate at Rally Control or at a stop point out in the forests.
Primary comms VHF between Stop and Control, UHF-CB between Flying Finish and Stop.
Some time between competitor runs to play witSome time between competitor runs to play with HF amongst tall trees.
Start arriving on Friday afternoon, be at checkpoints with comm checks
completed by 9-45am Saturday, say hi to the 00 car from 10-30am and competition
will start at 11am and finish Saturday Night around 11-30pm.

SES Townsville/Thuringowa Division Joint Exercise.
A golden opportunity to gain experience in operating with Counter-Disaster
organisations in preparation for the support role that Radio Amateurs provide
during times of disaster.
The exercise will involve some operators on foot in forested, rocky, grassy,
sandy areas, mobile in vehicles and operating out of at least two base stations
that will be set up for the event. Possibility of an overnight camp-oute Townsville Region

- VK4RAT UHF Repeater Frequency Change - your help needed
If you live in the Townsville area and have the capability to receive
UHF frequencies then theTARCinc wants you !
As part of a planned change of frequency assignment for the
VK4RAT UHF Voice Repeater at Mount Stuart, reception monitoring needs
to take place on the recommended frequencies to ensure that they
are relatively free from interference from other services in the area.

theTARCinc have voted to change the current frequency assignment of
output 438.225MHz input 433.225MHz to move the repeater away from
the UHF Low Interference Potential Devices band. This band seems
to getting more and more populated by LIPD devices that propagate
far beyond their designed range of operation.
So if you live in the area and can monitor these inSo if you live in the area and can monitor these input and output
frequencies and occasionally send in reports, then the techie dudes
at theTARCinc will be eternally grateful !

WICEN Queensland holds a neWICEN Queensland holds a net every Sunday on 7075kHz from 8-30am (2230UTC)

The net calls in regular stations and then invites new stations to call in.
If conditions are poor on 7MHz, net control might move to around 3600kHz
depending on how pliable the net operators are.
Mix it with other WICEN ops and call in on the net !!

Try also the pre-WICEN net on 20metres
