News from the WIA
- WIA National Field Day
On Saturday the 13th and Sunday the 13th of April 2013,
Amateur Radio enthusiasts from all over Australia will be showcasing
Amateur Radio in prominent locations throughout their local area.
This activity, now in it's third year, will be a good opportunity to
break out your field day equipment, demonstrate emergency preparedness,
but most importantly engage the public.
Most people in the general public would give our hobby a second thought
if they knew a little more about it. This is the opportunity to showcase
our capabilities.
Does your club have the capacity to run your station on solar or wind power for the day?
Can you borrow some space in the local shopping centre car park?
Does the local sports complex run hot on a Saturday or Sunday?
Does the date align with a local community festival or school fete?
The opportunities are endless. Are you up to the challenge?
Keep an eye on the WIA website http://www.wia.org.au for further
information about this event.

- Margaret Retires !
Long time hard working WIA National Office lady Margaret Williams
has decided to retire.
Those of you who have had dealings with Margaret when chasing up things
WIA would know that she is one of the most patient and helpful people on the planet !
Margaret still has her WIA email address active if you wish to send her a
cheerio and farewell message.

News from Antarctica
- VK0RTM beacon active at Mawson Base
A new 6m beacon should now be on the air from the Australian Antarctic Territory.
Craig Hayhow, VK0JJJ from Mawson Base is reported to have brought with
him a beacon transmitter with the callsign VK0RTM that is now operational on
50.300MHz. The VK0RTM transmitter runs 50 watts. The beacon will not be the only
6m meter coming to the air. While at Mawson Station for about 12 months, Hayhow
plans to be active on all bands from 6m to 80m with priority given to 6m band
operation.

News from Central Queensland
- Clairview Gathering
The Clairview Gathering is a yearly event where Radio Amateurs meet
at a spot on the coast between Rockhampton and Mackay to relax, talk
radio, re-establish acquaintances and participate in the world renown
Saturday Night Mega-Auction. There might even be some fox-hunting and
there will definitely be RAFFLES ! There is a rumour going about that
George/VK4HAN might be getting a hair-cut again.
The Gathering is one of the main revenue raisers for the
Rockhampton and District Amateur Radio Club Inc and
Mackay Amateur Radio Association.

It happens in 2013 during the first weekend in May from
Friday evening 3rd to Sunday morn 5th May.
Those who are keen to chill out completely in one of the most relaxing
and laid back venues in the cosmos arrive earlier and stay later.

The Clairview Gathering is so popular that on-site accommodation is
close to being booked out already, so if you want to go you will have to
very quick. Otherwise there are nice camp, caravan or motor-home sites available too.

For further details contact RADAR Club Secretary Clive VK4ACC
on home phone 07 49271216 or mobile 0429632815

To book your camping spot contact the Clairview Beach Holiday Park
on 07 49560190

- Central Highlands News is out .. and you are asked for your input !
Helen Wood, Secretary of the Central Highlands Amateur Radio Club,
has issued the latest edition of the CHARC News, detailing the activities
of some of the CHARC members in recent times.
Helen is also after ideas for a proposed Theresa Creek Dam Camping Weekend Get Together.
Thoughts are on holding the event either on the weekend 18th/19th May or
on the weekend 25th/26th May. You need to let Helen know which weekend would be best !
The cost is $10 per person per night, unpowered sites and gas is available.
Helen also wants to know your preference about meals, either with the Club
supplying BBQ dinner and Recovery Breakfast as is done at the CHARC AGM (with all profit to
the club), or BYO everything?
Theresa Creek Camping Ground is at the Dam about 20km south of Clermont in Central Queensland
and is a great place to spend a relaxing camping weekend.
Deadline for submissions is Monday 29th April via email to Helen at

News from North Queensland

- Wanted .. Donations for VK4KG Memorial Station
They finally have a building to call their own, but it currently lacks mains power.
They have some fine examples of working Military Transmitters and Receivers
and some older RadioAmateur Transceivers but dont have anything modern to
demonstrate the newer modes of operating to the General Public.
The volunteers of the VK4KG Memorial Amateur Radio Station located at
RAAF Garbutt need donations from you to enable them to demonstrate Amateur Radio
to the public on a regular basis. Any modern HF Transceiver you are not using
is a good candidate for this most worthy cause.
Can You Help ? Contact theTARCinc and we will put you onto the VK4KG Station
Co-ordinator, Wayne/VK4WDM. Oh, if you are an electrician or electrical firm in
the Townsville area that can donate time and materials to help the station get
connected to mains that is only 10metres away then your donations would also be
greatfully received. The VK4KG volunteers, with help of donations, hope to be
operational again by the 2013 Remembrance Day Contest and be open every Sunday
for the General Public.

- TARC Social Meeting this Tuesday
This Tuesday March 19th the TARC Social Evening will be happening
at the Club Rooms atop SES HQ Green Street West End from
7-30pm. Come along and lend a helping hand to put the magazine of renown,
Back-scatter together and socialise with fellow hams.
All are welcome !

- North Queensland Net now has eComms
A reminder that The North Queensland Net, which happens every Sunday Evening on 3605.4kHz
from 0930UTC (which includes a live cross from 1000UTC onto 2metres in
Townsville) now is augmented by eComms

the eComms enhancements include
Skype - connect with VK4DA on bob pittman3
Echolink - connect with VK4DA
facebook - TARCadians can comment on the TARC Townsville Amateur Radio Club page

Overall it's intended to be another medium for contact and information during
the North Queensland Net and also to provide those on the Wallaby with the
ability to catch the net, and hopefully encourage those in the wider area
to provide some signal reports on stations heard.

- TARC does the JMFD 2013 this weekend
theTARCinc will be participating in the John Moyle Field Day weekend
from Friday afternoon 15th to Sunday afternoon 17th March 2013 at

(newsreader help - Thuringowa pronounced Thur - in - gaw - a :-) )

Logging for the event will be done by a dude that can type using a
12V powered netbook running the latest version of VKCL,

location that can be used what ever weather is happening plus plenty
of chances to kick back and socialise.
