CONTEST RULES
1. OBJECTIVE
For amateur radio stations around the world to contact as many other amateur radio stations as possible on HF bands using RTTY Baudot mode.
2. CONTEST PERIOD
Every year, last full weekend in August, from 12.00 UTC Saturday to 11.59 UTC Sunday (24 hours); in 2008 (30 - 31 August)
3. BANDS
All amateur bands from 3.5 through 28 Mhz, except WARC bands.
4. ENTRY CATEGORIES
1) Single Operator, All Bands, High Power (maximum 1500 watts RF output)
2) Single Operator, All Bands, Low Power (maximum 100 watts RF output)
3) Single Operator, All Bands, Assisted (Unlimited) (maximum 1500 watts RF output)
4) Multi Operator, Single Transmitter, All Bands (maximum 1500 watts RF output)
ONLY ONE transmitted signal is allowed at any time in all categories and only one callsign is allowed from a particular radio station.
Ad. 1, 2) Single Operator (cat. 1 & 2): Only one operator is allowed to perform all of the operating and logging functions. Use of DX CLUSTER, spotting nets or any other forms of alerting are NOT permitted. There is a restriction for band changes. Maximum ten (10) band changes per full clock hour (i.e. 11:00 - 11:59 UTC) are allowed.
Ad. 3) Single Operator, Assisted (Unlimited): Only one operator is allowed to perform all of the operating, logging and spotting functions (NO restrictions on band changes and to use any DX Cluster).
Ad. 4) Multi Operator: More than one person operates, logs, checks for duplicates, use of a spotting net, etc. There is a restriction for band changes. Maximum ten (10) band changes per full clock hour (i.e. 11:00 - 11:59 UTC) are allowed.
5. EXCHANGE
Single op. stations must transmit RST and four-digit number of the year the amateur radio licence was FIRST officially issued (e.g. 599 1983) to the operator.
Multi op. stations must transmit RST and four-digit number of the year the amateur radio licence to the club station or to the operator which callsign is used was first officially issued.
6. MULTIPLIERS
Multipliers are different four-digit numbers, meaning the four digits of the year of correspondent's first official amateur radio license. The multiplier (XXXX) is counted once per band.
7. QSO POINTS
One (1) QSO point for contacts within your own DXCC or WAE country;
Two (2) QSO points for contacts within your own continent but outside your own DXCC or WAE country;
Two (2) QSO points for contacts between different W, VE, VK, ZL, ZS, JA and PY call areas, LU provinces and Asiatic Russia UA9/UA0 oblasts;
Three (3) QSO points for contacts outside your own continent.
8. SCORE
The final score is the sum of QSO points from all bands multiplied by the sum of multipliers from all bands.
9. NATIONAL COMPETITION
A separate list of national scores (the sum of all scores from one DXCC country), regardless of club affiliation, will be published.
10. LOG INSTRUCTIONS
a) All logs must include following data: frequency (band), mode, date, time in UTC, sent and received callsign and sent and received exchanges.
b) Logs must be sorted in chronological order.
c) It is strongly recommended to write exact operating frequency for each QSO in the band column. ONLY LOGS WITH EXACT WRITTEN FREQUENCIES WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE PLAQUES.
d) Preferred format is CABRILLO (click here for log sample). If not Cabrillo, log must be in ASCII format.
e) The Contest Committee will accept electronic logs only (via e-mail or floppy disk). If you are logging on the paper you have to make a fair copy into the file by yourself.
f) File shall be named: "callsign.LOG"
g) USA, VE, VK, ZL, ZS, JA and PY stations are obliged to mark their STATE and/or a REAL (geographical) CALL-AREA in their LOG Header.
All the results will be re-calculated based on the real CALL- AREA of the stations.
11. AWARDS
Plaques will be awarded to the first place finishers in each of four (4) entry categories according to recommendation of the Paragraph 10.c.
The Contest Committee will, upon its own judgment, award certain number of certificates in each class/category.
12. PENALTIES
For broken calls, bad exchanges and QSOs, which do not appear in correspondent’s log, QSO points for each such error will be removed. 10% or more bad contacts, or violation of contest rules shall result in dropping participant from the classification. Other reasons, like non-submission of PC files or other information requested from participant, could also lead to dropping the participant from the classification.
13. DISQUALIFICATION
Violation of contest rules, unsportsmanlike conduct or very high percentage of unverifiable QSOs will be deemed sufficient cause for disqualification. Disqualified operator will not be classified in SCC RTTY Championship standings in the year following disqualification.
14. ALL DECISIONS OF THE CONTEST COMMITTEE ARE FINAL
15. DEADLINE
All submitted logs must be postmarked no later than September 15th of that year. Indicate SCC RTTY CHAMPIONSHIP and ENTRY CATEGORY on the envelope.
