XV. UK AREAS LIST:
•Care must be taken in the interpretation of UK Areas from small-scale maps.
•The addresses of British Stations given in RSGB and International Callbooks can
be misleading.
•The postal address system tends to use old county names that no longer exist,
and old boundaries of existing counties from before all, or some, of the
reorganizations of the administrative systems.
•The UK Postal Codes are not acceptable for the UK DX RTTY Contest.
•Administrative geography concerns itself with the hierarchy of areas relating to
national and local government in the UK. This hierarchy is complicated for not
only are there several layers but the structure is different in each constituent
Country of the UK. In addition the boundaries of many of the layers in the
hierarchy are subject to periodic or occasional change.
•Use this link http://www.statistics.gov.uk/geography/admin_geog.asp to find out
more about the Administrative Geography of the UK in general, or a specific UK
Country of your choice.
•Use this PDF file http://www.ukdx.srars.org/ukdxmap.pdf to view a map of all UK
local authorities.
•The two letter abbreviations are given to UK Areas by the UK DX RTTY Contest
Committe. These are used along with the full name in the list. Use this PDF file
http://www.ukdx.srars.org/ukdxclist.pdf as a standard UK Areas List for the UK
DX RTTY Contest. There are 170 current entities in the list.
