A DIFFERENT KIND OF AMATEUR RADIO COMPETITION ---> The overall Amateur
Radio population has diminished dramatically, and the group at Radio Arcala
(OH8X) is poised to try some new methods to attract young people
congregating in many non-traditional hangouts such as Virtual World on the
internet.
The overall Radio Arcala strategy is spelled out on the OH8X Webpages but
one of the key buttons - "On Young People's Terms" - is still to be
drafted. Radio Arcala challenges members of our fraternity of all ages to
draft the text for this button in a way that is both appealing and
informative enough to encourage today's youth to take the step we once took.
Please submit your paper (no more than 250 in length in English or Spanish)
by email no later than 15 March to oh8x@sral.fi (English) or
yv5amh@iaru-r2.org (Spanish). Details on the project can be found at

APPEAL FOR HELP ---> Abubaker, DL1AL (5A1A) sumitted "a very large number"
of 5A1A QSL cards for ARRL awards, but they got lost between Germany and
the US. "In an effort to rebuild my cards to apply for various awards, as
well as to create a QSL album of contacts from Libya, I need your help", he
says. "Please check your logs and if you worked 5A1A from 1995 onward,
would you please send me a card to confirm the contact? You may send the
card via the German bureau to DL1AL (my German callsign) or to my address
in Germany".

ARRL INTERNATIONAL DX CONTEST (CW) ---> Object of the contest is for W/VE
amateurs to work as many stations in as many DXCC countries as possible on
160, 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10 metre bands, while foreign amateurs (also
including KH6, KL7, CY9 and CY0) work as many W/VE stations in as many of
the 48 contiguous states and provinces as possible (full rules can be found
at http://www.arrl.org/contests/rules/2009/intldx.html. This year's event
will run from from 00.00 UTC on 21 February through 24.00 UTC on the 22nd.
Do not forget to give a look at the Announced Operations listing maintained
by Bill, NG3K at http://www.ng3k.com/Misc/adxc2009.html - good contest to
you all!

K5D ---> The logsearch is now up and running on DXpedition's website
(http://www.kp5.us/). It currently covers the period from 16 UTC on 13
February until 01.10 UTC on the 20th (67277 QSOs). The team now has "a more
robust internet connection and the gap between uploaded logs should begin
to shrink". The online lookup "cannot correct any problems we discover in
the logs. Those will be dealt with when we're off island. In short, if you
cannot find a Q in the online log, work us again just to be certain!"

LOGS ---> A logsearch for J20SE's recent operation is now up and running at
http://www.ik3ges.it/iv3fsg.htm, and the QSL cards are being printed. [TNX
