D STAR - ID-1 DD mode
PRELIMINARY TEST
The active cooperation between the Groups" Gruppo Scatter of Parma" and
the "Civitavecchia" one allowed us to accomplish another step toward a
better knowledge of the D-Star Protocol.
After the successes achieved with the QSOs in Digital Voice mode in 144-
430 Mhz bands, on 25th of May we attained a perfect link in 23 cm band
between the two stations in DV mode, using, other than Voice carrier,
also the sub carrier devoted to 19.200 Baud Data transmission.
If the former FM tests coudln't offer any doubt about also the success
of a contact in DV mode, for which must point out an audio quality uqual
or better than the one in FM, the fact that more satisfied us was the
transmission of structured texts to easily highlight any errors due to
codec of the signal.
Those qsos many times replied in continuos mode and between both paths ,
didn't reveal any quality decay, also in meteo conditions not so
favorable especially in the Monte Giogo area.
For the qso we utilized two IC-ID1 with 10 watt of power, both
interfaced with PCs and feeding to the 20 meters parabolic antennas of
the two stations.
When we finished the trials in DV mode, we shifted to 128 Kbs Digital
Data mode , always on 1.2 GHz band; The link between the two computers
was quickly attained exchanging the common files labels. However the
stop of one of the two computers prevented us to continue the test aimed
to transfer some images we prepared earlier for the trial.
The 25th of May rendezvous marks also a success for a 6 meters sked,
thanks to special feeders built by Toni IK4MZJ that, even if mounted in
temporary way, let us have a solid link in FM mode between the two
stations.
