Digital modes.
................ I4OYU experiences.

Gia 'a couple of years ago, on these very pages I have tried to convey my
sympathy for "digital modes.
Usually makes no great distinction between protocols to "correction of
error" such as PACKET, AMTOR, PACTOR and Worldwide D-STAR, D-RATS and
STARLET or without, such as PSK31, RTTY and D-STAR TERM Chat N6JN and
d-d-star in the field.
If we open "MULTIPSK" or "MIXW2" we can see how many modes of transmission

amateur or professional related to the keyboard.
In recent years my attention has been placed especially on PSK31 (BPSK31)
and PACTOR (Pactor3). The "thing" certainly shared by the two protocols is
the possibility of even long-distance links using QRP power almost (5-40
watts pep) even with considerable QSB and QRM very pronounced.
If the PSK31 and its "similar" I find them more dedicated to the classic
QSO via keyboard, with rapid information exchange style contest in PACTOR
see its excellence, world amateur the ability to interconnect traditional
bulletin board, placed in different continents, according
FBB protocol or the programs commonly used by radio amateurs. Also
interesting exchange of information with the MBO second easiest, although
limited in function, software on the modem SCS-PTCII, or AIRMAIL HAM vers.
3xx, the latter compatible with the way FBB for automatic forwarding.
Not to forget NCWINPTC, simple program used instinctive and can even be
installed on a PC with limited performance.
The amateur stations of reference for Pactor are numerous and just read
the bulletin ZS5S monthly page dedicated to "Classic Pactor MBO's WW" to
become acquainted.
The stations are normally connect: IK0MIL, referring to the 'HAM PACTOR
Italian, UA6ADV followed by very nice Raja, TA2BBS Ankara GB7CIP Paul,
generous with advice, Bob WB3DTG in Pennsylvania, and the friendly DA5UHR
DF5JR Dieter.
Occasionally I also connected Om exchanging funny "chat" style PSK31.
In addition to 'use strictly amateur, I remember using this way
data in the network WINLINK2000 - Global Radio Email System "- widely used
for radio connections / tcpip from "Om sailors" or adventurous explorers,
the node is followed by Italian IV3XHR.
In the world of Amateur Radio Emergency Communications USA have used and
use the Pactor2 and 3 in HF, if connections are not available in
traditional VHF and UHF range with the advantage of being able to operate
with low power and therefore with fewer feeding problems.
Hoping to connect soon Om Italians, other than a chat, my usual
frequencies are:
7,049,900 and 14,108,900 in both USB.
