Our next net holiday is Labor Day, Monday,
September 7. The PCL Net will take that night
off. Then, it's no more net holidays until
Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years.

I attended the 2026 ARRL Delta Division Convention,
and the Shreveport Amateur Radio Association (SARA)
Hamfest on August 8, joined by fellow hams Tim
Grooms, K5TLG, and Travis Burton, KB5ILY. We made
good time on the way down, and both the weather and
HF was great (Net Control for the Arkansas Phone Net
was in far northeast Arkansas, but we heard him full
scale in northwest Louisiana!!).
Once there, representing Chapter 158 of the Quarter
Century Wireless Association (QCWA), we were next
to QCWA Chapter 85. I was the odd man out...wearing
a T-shirt from the UALR (University Of Arkansas At
Little Rock) instead of my QCWA shirt...and without
a beard, moustache, and hair...as I had recently got
a shave and a haircut (it cost far more than 2 bits
(hi hi)). The crowd seemed smaller than last year,
from what I could tell.
Food wise, we exploited Have Another Meal of H.A.M.
Last year, beforehand...McDonald's was closed, but
Burger King was open. This year, it was reversed!!
At the hamfest, instead of us standing in line at
the concession stand, one of the workers took our
order and money, and brought our food to us...and
took our trash away afterwards. I bought a self inking
stamp with 2 of my email addresses on it, that I can
stamp the back of my QSL cards with. Then on the way
home, we ran into strong thunderstorms with blinding
rain. After we made it to The Fish Nest in Glenwood,
we again got a spot next to the buffet, and 5 minutes
after we arrived, so did everyone else for the dinner
hour (hi hi).
Thoughts now turn to the Huntsville Hamfest in less
than 2 weeks. I still have to do laundry, pack the
case, and print a bunch of items. But, with hot and
dry weather for the next week, as long as the power
stays on, I'll be OK. I am greatly looking forward
to getting away from the QTH for a few days. The
tropics are getting active, but I hope weather is
calm for the Huntsville Hamfest.
Got a flyer today for the 2026 Mena, Arkansas hamfest.
It's the oldest hamfest west of the Mississippi River.
I hope that we don't have to deal with fog, storms,
or other bad weather to and from the event...but you
never know with Arkansas' weather, which is supposed
to be very hot and dry the rest of August.

GE Daryl et., al. Quiet week, very hot, very very humid,
some wicked T-Storms but had zero damage..... So, so far
so good....
XYL and I (and maybe the dog) going up to Alexandria Bay,
NY (roughly 6 hours, but she want's to make stops....)..
in mid Sept...
Those who don't know, AB is on the St Lawrence River a
little east of Lake Ontario...
Other than that work....

GE Daryl and everyone. Yes, will be fun to FINALLY get
eyeball qso with you. And good to visit with Scott.
Re Shreveport HF, lived there in late 70s (maybe before
several of you were born) and few years after that worked
out of Fort Smith and had some equipment up on mountain
near Mena. Both have been good hamfests.
And went to Minden hamfest several years ago. Beautiful
area imho
Three day weekend trip this last weekend to Wagoner OK
area. Some heavy rain and wind on way down but dry in
Wagoner and Tulsa area. Still getting some rain this
area, unusual for August. Still mowing grass
Two weeks in a row to chat with you all; maybe new
record for me this year. Always fun. Heading toward
Georgia probably Thursday to visit brother near
Atlanta. Then Huntsville on return trip. Will try
check in next Monday night.

Charley, the Minden ARC was there promoting their
Christmas hamfest on Dec. 5. I may wear the Train
Conductors Outfit all 3 days, so I can be recognized.

Another uneventful week. WX has been warm, but not
unbearable - coupled with early morning rains it's
making my yard needing a mowing twice a week now!
That part needs to go...
Nothing much new to report here. Been helping the
YL get her daughters wedding planned. My job seems
to be to keep here scraped off the ceiling if you
know what I mean! hihi
Wonder how Rick is making out? I heard today that
B.C. has declared a state of emergency due to wild
fires.

Bob, I postponed my mowing until September, as
little if any rain is expected until then. I do
have a bunch of leaves that have fallen off of
the trees, because of the dry weather. The local
National Weather Service posted a hot weather
briefing, along with alerts for a flash drought,
and increased fire danger and burn bans.
As for the wedding, I thought it was "here comes
the groom, going to his doom...he's getting
buried!!" (hi hi).

GE All.
Mostly quiet week here, though we have had some
thunderstorms the last couple of days. That's
pretty typical this time of year.
I am trying to get back to a couple of electronics
projects and am setting up an old laptop for use
with my AOIC and fldigi et. al. I am also looking
forward to getting 2m & 70 cm EGGNogs boards to
make a couple of egg beaters to see how that works
out.
I am envious of all the hamfest activity. Around
here, everyone seems to hold short hamfests only
on Saturday morning...right when I am in dialysis.
I may have to play hooky some weekend just to get
to one.

Carl, FB on the antennas...but it's the same with
hamfests in Arkansas. With the exception of the
Mena Hamfest the weekend after Labor Day, all of
them are Saturday morning and early afternoon only.

we got... enough to keep the grass alive but not
growing.

In the shack I have been giving myself brain-damage
over linux PC, but making progress...
I got ALL of the FLdigi suite of apps installed and
working on linux!!

Scott, I saw where there is an app for FT8 for your
smartphone, but it requires a rig with it. I too,
am looking forward to seeing you, Charley, and so
many others at the end of next week.
