N5VLZ:

GE All, and welcome to the May 4, 2026,
PCL Net. Early checkin for Wayne, KC2NJV,
as he was short time.

Net order is Daryl, Glen, Bob (NY),
Charley, Rick, Carl, and whoever else
may show up.

Our next net holiday is 3 weeks from
tonight, Monday, May 25, for Memorial
Day. The PCL Net will take that night
off.

Sorry I missed last week...I was right
in the middle of five days of doing
Arkansas Skywarn. We had at least six
tornadoes, numerous reports of golfball
to baseball size hail, flash flooding,
and wind damage. Springfield, Missouri,
and the nearby areas were blasted with
a significant hailstorm. It looks like
I'll be doing it again Tuesday through
Wednesday, including overnight.

I oversaw a ham radio license exam
session at the University Of Arkansas
at Little Rock last Saturday. We had a
crowd...11 VE's, and 3
candidates (3 is a crowd (hi hi). Two
passed their Technician, and 1 passed
the Technician and General. So, all 3
walked out with a CSCE.

I got a good deal on a portable power
supply, and a mini projector off of
Amazon, that I can use during Skywarn,
and when I am doing presentations at
hamfests or elsewhere. I need to start
saving funds for food and transportation
at Huntsville, just over 3 months away
now. There is no way I'm going to Xenia
late next week. I have a bunch of other
items arriving with that portable power
supply and mini projector on Wednesday.

I'm working on transferring the webhosting
of a regional net that has been on hiatus
for a good while...and while there's no
word on when the net may resume, I'm
keeping the material for the site.

HF was a little better this week working
with the remotehams.com deal, but I have
to find a closer node to work with. But,
my main HF work will be to just checkin
to a few HF nets, as my main mode is D-Star;
and of course, packet via telnet. :-)

GE, Glen. Welcome to the net. Press <ENTER>
to start, and type >>> when you're done. >>>

**

M6GSN:

GE, everyone, I am based in London England >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Glad to have you...we're here most Monday
nights. The net actually started 46 years ago
in Branson, Missouri...the original net control
and Sysop are silent keys, but we keep things
going.

GE Bob (NY), how was your week?? >>>

**

NS2B:

GE All!

An uneventful week. Decided to get out of
Meshtastic. I learned what it is, and I don't
need it - at least not right now.

Still work Hamword for this week.

And yeah, HF seems a little better. But the skip
zone for me is running long at the moment. My
"normal" skip zone hasn't returned yet.

For this week, I'm staging camping gear for this
weekends trip down to Watkins Glen to catch the
NASCAR festivities.

Weather forecast looks cool and damp. I can deal
with the cool, as the damp is minimal.

That's it for me. BTU Daryl >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Bob, Meshtastic has quite a bit of a learning
curve. Ironically, a local club meeting on
Thursday will discuss Winlink. I just haven't
had time for HamWord, and am not that good with
word games. FB on the NASCAR Festivities...the
Indy 500 race and I think W9S special event station
is coming up soon.

GE Charley...are you still traveling?? >>>

**

NT5R:

ge everyone

Returned to Missouri last Wednesday, three week trip
turned into 6 weeks. Friend in Alabama doing better.
Able to drive some now. Still looooong way for
recovery from brain surgery.

Branson packet node and fill-in digi that I built up
waiting for new home. Kimberling City packet node
still on air.

Been MUCH activity on Branson 195 repeater. Branson
club bootcamp yielded 9 new tech licensees. All middle
school home-schooled kids. They are having a blast on
radio and everyone has been patient and respectful
with them. When they pass their license they receive
a HT programmed with local frequencies. One of the kids
came up on his own with idea how many call sign/name
contacts he could get in a week. So, several of them
are doing their contest. May have some future DXers
there. Been fun listening and chatting with several
of them. Two of the mothers also got their licenses.
Club having another bootcamp for home-schooled high
schoolers in a couple weeks.

Daryl, you mentioned Huntsville, I plan to do Huntsville
hamfest. Brother lives in Georgia, and friends in
southern Alabama, so good excuse to go that direction.
Did Huntsville last year first time, good hamfest.

Would have liked Xenia this year, but too much catching
up at home to take off again this soon.

So btu>>>

N5VLZ:

Charley, first off, I thought I had a lot to talk
about!! (hi hi).

Second, glad you're back home safe, and your friend
is doing better.

FB on the ham radio stuff, especially all the new
young licesees, and their Moms as well. That Branson
Bootcamp is a great idea.

Look for me at the QCWA (Quarter Century Wireless
Association) table in the main hall both days, right
around the corner from the Straight Key Century Club
(SKCC) table in Huntsville. Will be great to have an
eyeball with you.

GE Rick, how was your week?? >>>

**

VA7RBP :

Good evening Daryl and all on NET.

Nothing exciting to report. The bands are still acting
up.

This week, I have just been doing maintenance around
the house/yard.

Replaced the lock on the front door, and trying to get
the gas fireplace working.

I try to get out for walks a couple of times every day.
Time to haul the bike out of the shed, and get it ready
to start riding again.

Like I mentioned... nothing exciting.

That's it for me, so BTU Daryl >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Rick, with the testing I noted Saturday, that was the
first time since my left hip replacement surgery, that
I went without a cane for stability. I'm surprised at
how well I did, and glad I didn't fall. My lawn man will
be by next week, as the storms are supposed to be here
tomorrow. Hope you can start riding the bike again soon.

GE Carl, how was your week?? >>>

**

KX4AC:

Good evening all on the net!

Been a busy weekend, but not in a ham way. I finally got
the parts to put together a new "good" desktop (i.e.
GPU card and all). My older "good" computer died over a
year ago, but I never spent much time debugging it because
the CPU was so old it would not even run some modern
software. So, finally got parts and put together a new one
with AMD Ryzen and NVIDIA GPU. Spent yesterday and today
building it and getting it running.

Hey, at least no smoke!

On the ham front, I saw the ad for the "all in one" board
and picked one up. It came last week. Man, it is tiny! It
is really just a serial port (for CAT) and a sound card,
but looks like it will be nice for portable work. I need
to make up a cable for my Yaesu and see how it works.

Lets see ... still need to start HAMWORD this week, and
beyond that I had to replace the flush valve in the master
bedroom toilet ... it suddenly quit filling last week. Got
that fixed and now I need to work on the guest bathroom.
There is always something around the house that needs
fixing!

I guess that's about it for now. Back to net >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Carl, first at least there's no "smoke on the 'puter, and
fire in the board" (hi hi). Glad you got it working.

On that mini projector, I remember when they were huge and
expensive...this one is small by comparison.

Been there, done that, on the toilet issues.

At a club meeting Thursday, they'll talk about Winlink...
should be interesting.

That's it for round 1...back to the top for final comments.

Glen, glad you could join us tonight, hope you enjoyed it.
Anything else?? >>>

**

M6GSN:

Thanks for having me in the net. Regarding Winlink, it's
one of the modes I use and I love using it, both packet
and telnet.

I will be coming back to the next.

BTU Daryl >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Glen, thanks for being here...see you next time.

Bob, thanks for the use of the BBS...anything else?? >>>

**

NS2B:

Welcome to the net Glen! nothing more here Daryl - everyone
have a good week - 73 >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Thanks for being here, Bob...see you next week.

Charley, anything else?? >>>

**

NT5R:

Glen, good to have you here. Will try Winlink with you
sometime.

Everyone have an awesome week. 73 >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Take care, Charley...type at you next week.

Rick, anything else?? >>>

**

VA7RBP:

That's it for me. Thanks Daryl for doing the NET, and
thanks to BOB for providing the real estate..

Everyone stay well, 73 until next time. BTU Daryl >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Thanks for being here, Rick...see you next time.

Carl, you get to wrap it up tonight...anything else?? >>>

**

KX4AC:

It is nice to see some new people joining, that about
wraps it up for me. 73s to all. >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Take care, Carl...missing a few tonight, but a good
turnout, nonetheless.

That'll do it for tonight's PCL Net. I'll try to get
the scribe done tonight, as I'll be involved with
Skywarn the next 2 days.

Everyone stay safe, healthy, weather aware, and
radio-active.

73 and GN DE N5VLZ. >>>
