N5VLZ:

GE All, and welcome to the Feb 16 2026 PCL Net.
One early checkin via Winlink from Jay, KE6ONV.

Net order is Daryl, Bob (NY),

and whoever else shows up.

Sorry I forgot to post last week's scribe...I got
sidetracked after the net...but will try to do it
after the net tonight, along with tonight's scribe.
I guess I had to show that "H.A.M." means "Haven't
Any Memory".

I didn't think I'd make it in tonight, as my internet
was out much of the day. It finally came back up at
4pm Central Time. It had a good time to go down, as
I had insomnia much of the night (again), along with
a migraine headache, and nightmares of former jobs.
It has to be a Monday...and speaking of which...

I was hoping to book a trip to the Huntsville Hamfest
next month (that hamfest is in August), but with my
having to change the webhost for my personal homepage,
plus another site, and other bills, I guess another
out of area vacation is never to be. Every time I get
my hopes up about something, the rug is pulled out from
under me. I'm long overdue for a vacation, just to get
away from things, but it looks like I'll never get it.
At least with the Homestead Exemption, no property tax
payment for me this year.

We finally got some much needed rain over the weekend,
with 2 to 4 inches across portions of central Arkansas.
Our tornado season starts March 1, and I've prepared a
Simulated Emergency Test that will last 3 hours, with
mock watches, warnings, and statements. It'll be done
on a Wednesday, to coincide with the Required Weekly
Test of NOAA Weather Radio, and the tornado siren test.
But, the weather has to be "clear" for the SET to be
done.

I'm updating the Ham Radio Humor Compilation file with
several new hilarious memes from the Amateur Radio
Funnies Group. I hope to have that online either later
this evening, or on Tuesday.

Two weeks from this Sunday, March 8, is the time change
back to "Dumb Stupid Time". The time for this net, and
most other nets won't change, but the UTC time will be
one hour earlier. For those whose nets are on UTC Time,
if you observe the time change, your checkin time will
be an hour later.

Using RemoteHams.Com, I checked into the Quarter Century
Wireless Association 20 meter HF Net on Sunday...they
had 30 checkins. I need to do some more practice with
it, and find stations who have a node available, when
I can check into a few other HF nets, but my main mode
will remain D-Star.

GE Bob (NY), how was your week?? >>>

NS2B:

GE All!

Well, it warmed up a bit here - been high 30s, low 40s
for the past couple of days and supposed to be like this
for the next week - getting some of the ice melted around
here, I guess to make room for more later!

Got my the firmware and initial config setup in my meshtastic
node - waiting for a case i ordered to get here so I can put
it together with a battery and wander the streets and see if
I can make any connections with it.

Got hamword in 3 guesses today - that's rare!

A local fellow that was instrumental in getting our local
Winlink node going is now taking the charge to get AREDN
running here - i'm looking forward to that i think!

N5VLZ:

Bob, FB on the weather, but winter may not be done in some
areas. The GFS is calling for rain and snow here this weekend,
but the other models are dry. FB on the Meshtastic setup, and
you likely just jinxed yourself with Hamword (hi hi). Also,
FB on ARDN.

GE Charley, you'll be after Glenn.

GE Bob (OK), how was your week?? >>>

KF5TVG:

GE All on the net!

Bob, congrats on your mesh node and the 3 tries in Hamword.
Pretty Great!

Mentioned last week working on a possible radio control for a
friend that lost his sight a few years ago. Solved the problem
of getting out of it and am now progressing nicely. I'm using
a free plan from voicerss.org to generate words and phrases in
*.wav format. It's using a rotary encoder (knob) with a built
in button on top. Navigation is simple: rotate the knob and it
speaks the value you're pointing to. When you get to the desired
value, push down to select that value. To cancel, push and hold
the button down a couple of seconds.

I gave him a demo of my initial setup and he seemed pretty happy!

The radio is a JRC AST-245, which seems like a pretty nice HF
radio.

I still have a long way to go to send the commands over a serial
link to actually control the radio, but we're off to a good start.

That's all for now. BTU Daryl >>>

N5VLZ:

Bob (OK), that voicerss sounds interesting...hope you can work it
out. It reminded me of the meme of selecting hearing for a ham...
OFF, ON, XYL, are the settings (hi hi).

GE, Glenn, how was your week?? >>>

N3MEL:

Hello everyone,

I don't have a lot this evening I was on call last week and then
worked all weekend and I am ready for an early night.

This month's PKTNET is underway this week, thank you Bob (NY) for
your check-in

Also the TPRFN Network picked up two new stations in the west and
we can now send RF packet traffic from coast to coast, very happy
with progression of the network the past 3 years.

Hope you can find the means to get a vacation in soon Daryl!

Well that's it for now btu Daryl >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Glenn, I'm not optimistic on it. I've become such a pessimist in
that regard. With the government shutdown and increased TSA delays,
it may not be worth it.

FB on PKTNET and the TPRFN network.

OK, if Charley gets back, I'll go back to him, but for now, back to
the top for final comments.

Bob (NY) thanks for the use of the BBS...anything else?? >>>

**

NS2B:

nothing more here - everyone have a good week - 73 >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Thanks for being here, Bob...see you next week.

Bob (OK), anything else?? >>>

**

KF5TVG:

nope. Hope all have a great week! 73 and BTU >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Take care, Bob...thanks for stopping by.

Glenn, anything else for us?? >>>

**

N3MEL:

One eye still open, nothing more from here 73 GN all! >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Glenn, been there, done that!! Rest well...see you next time.

Well, since we lost Charley, that'll do it for tonight's net.
I've got to get something to eat before the next net I have
to do, and will try to remember to post both scribes.

73 and GN DE N5VLZ >>>
