N5VLZ:

GE all, and welcome to the Nov 10 2025 PCL
Net. One early checkin, David, N2YEM...not
sure if he'll make the net or not.

Net order is Daryl, Bob (NY), Charley, Carl,
Bob (OK), and whoever else shows up.

Sorry I missed last week. I had a Zoom
meeting with the Handiham Radio Club Net
Control Ops. I'm a substitute Net Control,
and right now, I am only needed sparingly;
but you never know when that need will
arise.

Happy Veterans Day to all the veterans, and
thank you for your service to your country.

Our next net holiday is 2 weeks from tonight,
Nov. 24 for Thanksgiving week. Then, we'll
have 3 more PCL Nets for 2025 on Dec. 1, 8,
and 15...we'll be OFF Dec. 22 for Christmas
Week, and Dec. 29 for New Years Week, then
will resume on Jan. 5, 2026. We want to wish
everyone a safe and happy holiday season.

I oversaw a license exam session this past
Saturday, and we got 1 upgrade to General,
and 2 new Technicians. It's possible that
the 40+ day government shutdown may end
this week, which would flood the FCC ULS
with exam results from the VEC's...I hope
the ULS won't crash!! I'm glad I'm not
planning any trips until spring!!

One of the things President Trump is
talking about is a possible 1 time credit
from the tariffs to low income folks, that
would sure help me out, especially if it's
$2000...where I could get some needed work
under the house started, with an initial
deposit, then making monthly payments for
a time.

We had a statewide freeze last night (29
in Little Rock), ending our growing season;
right on time for the first freeze in the
Little Rock area. While the colder weather
makes the arthritis hurt more, it means
colder water for drinking beverages, no heat
illness, no lawn mowing, no insects, and
especially no tornadoes; which are possible
when we get back into the 70s later this
week, with a chance of thunderstorms over
the weekend. I'll be back on RF locally with
Arkansas Skywarn soon, as soon as I get some
help setting everything up. The Arkansas
Skywarn Coordinator has taken us to lunch at
an area Golden Corral once a week to talk
shop, and of course, to graze. He took photos
on his smartphone to make his YL jealous of
all the good food (hi hi).

I had my wellness check and flu shot earlier
today. Except for the weight, everything else
was good. My podiatrist appointment next month
is my last medical deal for the year. When you
are on a fixed income, you have to eat on the
cheap. I did get a $100 credit from Simplisafe
(my home alarm company) for answering their
survey...and will use that on Amazon. I'll
know in a few days if I've gone over the type
2 diabetes threshold on the A1C, etc.

GE Bob (NY), how was your week??

**

NS2B:

GE All!

A busy week of hospital runs. They thought the
MIL had a heart attack. Turns out it might have
only been pneumonia. She was moved to rehab
today, because she's still too weak to walk
around on her own.

Still working on this weeks Hamword, I think
I've got my last guess submitted.

Carl! Glad to see you on! I was getting worried.

I heard about that tariff credit thing. And then
I saw one of the Washington talking heads on the
news walking it back saying it may be in the form
of tax credits.

It snowed here today. Supposed to get another 2-3
inches tonight. Winter, bah humbug.

That's it for me. BTU Daryl >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Bob, glad the mother-in-law didn't have a heart
attack, but pneumonia is bad enough. FB on HamWord.
On the tariffs deal, I figured as much. There were
winter storm warnings around Chicago, and in the
lee of the Great Lakes.

It's good to see Carl...I'll be with you shortly.

GE Charley, how was your week?? >>>

**

NT5R:

ge everyone

good week except no like cold weather, temp range
here today 24.1 tp 39.0 d f

No frost on windshield, but some on hood this
morning

Bob sending good vibes for your MIL

Re shutdown tried to help fellow in our Kimberling
club renew license couple weeks ago. Web site not
working and his license expires Nov 15.

Bob, snow beautiful, but hope you no need drive
too much with that.

Carl, we are looking to be first three weeks of
January in Phoenix area. Our friend said if we
could find a bungalo, may stay all winter.
Hopefully, get eyeball qso with you next trip

Daryl, take care of yourself, hope all goes well
for you. So btu>>>

**

N5VLZ:

Charley, I'm afraid we'll have a bad winter here.

As for the expired license, if it expires during
the shutdown, they can still operate, but they have
to contact the FCC via the ULS within 24 hours
after they open back up to take care of it. Contact
the ARRL/VEC at 1-860-594-0300 for details.

Hope you can do that visit to see Carl in January.

GE Carl, hope it was your computer, and not your
health that had issues. How are things?? >>>

**

KX4AC:

GE All. Ya, last week the time change tripped me.
I knew the time had changed by an hour, and then
I got distracted with something, and by the time
I realized what time it was I had missed it. I
have an alarm set now :-)

I do have some problems on my BBS that I will have
to debug. Bob memtioned that my WX reports are not
going out; I did get your email, but was lazy about
responding. For some reason my Internet-server can
reach AMPRNET, but the BBS cannot. Maybe everything
needs a reboot.

I have definitely been a bit lazy recently. We are
still working on getting my fluid load corrected at
dialysis and I have also been suffering a bit of
anemia. All kind of par for the course. I'm getting
stronger slowly.

I have been playing with one of those surplus
rubidium frequency standards from ebay. It seems
to work pretty good, but man does it get HOT. Seems
to have an average power dissipation of like 10-15
watts, and all in a fairly small area. I really just
wanted it to double check my frequency counters, so
I will only power it up for calibrations and what
not.

Charley, I will definitely look forward to seeing
you in January, nothing else planned at that time.
First and Third Saturdays we have a club breakfast,
so maybe you can join us there as well.

I guess that's all for now. Back to net >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Carl, you likely weren't the only one who missed
the time change!! As for BBS issues, some of my
message editors have barfed, so I'm trying to fix
that issue.

As for being lazy, I thought the suffix of my
callsign (VLZ) was for "very lazy" (hi hi). But,
the anti-anxiety and hypertension medications I
take at lunch make me sleepy, so I have to get a
power nap afterwards.

The 25 amp power supply I have with the HTX 242
that I'll use for Arkansas Skywarn is a BRICK...
it must weigh at least 15 pounds!! Hope you and
Charley can have tnat eyeball QSO.

Not sure what that mess was with Charley gettting
the <ENTER> key stuck (I deleted it from the
scribe).

GE Bob (OK), how was your week?? >>>

**

KF5TVG:

GE All!

Thanks to our veterans for your service to our
country!!!

I talked this week with some local hams at our
weekly "Elmer Night" and showed them an example
of using meshtastic (you know, the solution
looking for a problem!) to pull environment data
(ambient temp, xmitter heatsink temp, power
voltage and current) and pump them into the mesh
and then into a mqtt broker and on into Home
Assistant (HA). Once in HA, can send email if a
parameter is out of bounds. It also provide charts
over time, so an easy way to see if things change
over time. There was a lot of interest in putting
a test setup one of the club's repeaters. It's on
a county owned tower in a gated area, so not easy
to get eyes on it if there is a problem.

Carl, glad to year you are improving! XYL and I
moved to Phoenix right after marriage/graduation
in August of '74. Shortly after arriving we were
told an extreme weather event was going to occur:
a 6 inch rain! I was startled to hear that for such
a "dry climate" :). Oh yeah, it's 6 inches between
drops!

That's all for now. BTU Daryl>>>

**

N5VLZ:

Bob, I like that deal on the Elmer Night. A ham radio
club in Ohio has a weekly Special Interest Group SIG
on a specific topic, but I like the deal on multiple
topics. FB on the Meshtastic deal. When they get heavy
rain out in the deserts, flooding can cause numerous
problems.

That's all for round 1. Back to the top for final
comments.

Bob (NY), thanks for the use of the BBS. Anything
else?? >>>

**

NS2B:

Carl: Laziness is an acceptabe excuse. One of my
favorite actually! hihi

Marine Corps birthday today - 250 years - and I
attended 7 of those!

Nothing more here - everyone have a good week! 73 >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Bob, thanks for being here, and Semper Fi!!

Charley, anything else?? >>>

**

NT5R:

Thank you to all veterans for your service. Bob (OK) we
have several local setting up Mesh network,

Nixa hamfest yesterday good presentation fellow out of
Texas, they sell to commercial and ham

Like your idea of "Elmer Night"

Everyone have an awesome week. Always fun to type at you!
73>>>

**

N5VLZ:

Charley, thanks for being here. I think every club should
have an Elmer Night.

Carl, anything else?? >>>

**

KX4AC:

Guess that's about all from here. Phoenix does have some
big rains sometimes, though nothing like the "normal"
states. Officially we are "semi-desert" so not quite as
dry as an official desert.

73s to all; back to net >>>

**

Carl, thanks for being here. When those normally dry
areas get heavy rain, it causes numerous problems.

Bob (OK), anything else?? >>>

**

KF5TVG:

A comment about our "Elmer nights": Once a week, from
6:30 to 9 and anywhere from 30-45 hams. Usually 6-8 topics
going at the same time, so if you get bored with one, you
can just jump over to another group.

Thanks to Bob and Daryl for making this net happen!

73 to all.

BTU Daryl>>>

**

N5VLZ:

Thanks for being here, Bob. I like the multiple topics
going on.

That'll do it for tonight's PCL Net. I'll post the scribe
tomorrow, as I have to eat something before another net
this evening.

Everyone stay warm, safe, healthy, weather aware, and
radio-active.

73 and GN DE N5VLZ. >>>
