Welcome to the May 19, 2025 PCL Net.
Net order is Daryl, Tom, Bob (NY), Charley,
Carl, Bob (OK), and whoever else shows up.
The stormy spring continues, with tornadoes
several days in a row, and the storms will
be in my area later tonight into much of
Tuesday. Weather should be calmer for a
few days, but Memorial Day Weekend looks
stormy. They just issued a Tornado Watch
for my region lasting until 2am Tuesday.
Speaking of Memorial Day, the PCL Net will
NOT meet next Monday, May 26, but will
return on Monday, June 2. We wish everyone
a safe and happy holiday weekend, and
remember the true purpose of the weekend.
I had to shuffle budget items around to pay
the bills this month, and had to move four
medical appointments to next month, and got
this one group to allow me to pay a back bill
to next month. It took 2 weeks for the bill
to reach my PO Box, and the place is having
phone network issues, so I've waited several
hours to talk to someone, but after 40 minutes,
you're then disconnected, if your call wasn't
taken by a representative.
I used my HMO rewards to get some more food, so
I'll have enough food and drink for the rest of
the month. I'm on a diet of tunafish sandwiches
with sweet honey BBQ sauce, plus a meat and
potatoes Hormel Compleats, as well as Beefaroni.
I hope to go to a BBQ dinner and square dance on
May 31 for a change of pace, food wise. The
budget will be tighter than a frog's butt
underwater for awhile. The lawn mow had to be
delayed until May 29.
GE Tom, welcome to the net. How was your week?? >>>

KE4QCM:
Hello Daryl and everyone from Stone Mtn, GA this
evening.
Fine thanks, hadn't been on this net in awhile,
but sent a msg to promote this net in North GA.
Thanks for being NCS tonight Daryl >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Thanks for being here, Tom, and thanks for the
promo for the net.
GE Bob (NY), how was your week?? >>>
**
NS2B:
GE All!
It went by fast!
Had to take my riding mower to the shop last week
cuz it's got some kind of fuel flooding problem.
They're backlogged 10-12 days they said, so today
I was mowing with the push mower. I'm tuckered out
now!
Went down to the track Saturday and flagged the
Genesee BMW Club races. They had some fast this year!
I was impressed!
Not much new on the radio front. Did find a new net
(new to me) Michigan One DMR Tech Net - it's on
right now - some interesting listening - sometimes.
Brandmeister TG 31266 if anyone cares.
Hope the Tornadoes avoid your location Daryl. BTU >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Bob, my NOAA Weather Radio will work overtime tonight
and Tuesday, so that means little sleep. Bummer on
the lawn mower deal. At least I have someone do the
yard for me. The bush trimming has to wait. FB on the
BMW Club Races. As for nets, there's too many nets,
too many modes, too much confusion, and too little time
to checkin to them.
GE Charley, glad you made it...how was your week?? >>>
**
NT5R:
ge everyone
Hang in there Daryl, your situation will improve
eventually. Never give up.
Bob, just brought up the Michigan Tech Net on Hoseline.
Sounds interesting, closing their net now. 23 checkins
good number.
Bob those carburator on small engines sometimes cheaper
to replace than repair. But could be float sticking or ??
Tom, I am presently visiting brother in Carrolton GA not
too far from you! Be in area probably until Friday or so.
Been on road several weeks...Tennessee, Georgia, Maine,
drove by ARRL HQ Newington CT late photos kinda dark.
Saturday Sunday Hamvention Xenia/Dayton had a blast.
Fellow issued me 44 net address, now just need learn
how to best use it.
btu Daryl>>>
**
N5VLZ:
Charley, you are the world traveler. :) With the extended
checkins on Facebook, and via linked systems, the QCWA
Sunflower Net on May 17 had a record 53 checkins, with 29
of those QCWA members. Glad you had fun at Hamvention. FB
on the quick shot of ARRL HQ...too bad it was after dark.
GE Carl, how was your week?? >>>
**
KX4AC:
GE all.
Sorry I missed the net last week. We had a friend over,
made fried chicken and played gin rummy.
Not much radio last Monday :-)
In the meantime, I have been fixing up and calibrating some
old Heathkit test gear that I built when I was in my youth.
I love some of that old stuff, especially my bench meter
with a big old analog meter. I also have the old "most
accurate clock" setup and syncing with WWV. Still works
after all these years. Most of the effort is just cleaning
dirty switches and calibrating.
In the meantime, I am enjoying my longwire antena that I got
strung up around the roof. It's working pretty well. It
would be better at 200ft, but I will take what I can get. I
also have figured out some tricks with the receive and transmit
audio settings that help a lot.
The yard is starting to green up and fill in nicely. I have
been encouraging it with some extra water, and am trying to
get some seed to grow and help fill in a couple of bare spots.
So far, just waiting and hoping. I love sitting outside this
time of year. In a couple of months, it will be too hot to
want to be outside in the early afternoon.
That's about all for now. Back to net >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Carl, glad you had that time of food and fellowship with your
friend. FB on working with the vintage gear, and the longwire
antenna, as well as the yard. With all the rain, grass is
really growing here.
GE Bob (OK), I know you've been anxious with nearby tornadoes.
Hope you're OK otherwise. How was your week?? >>>
**
KF5TVG:
GE All on the net!
We had a severe thunderstorm pass by around 4:30 this afternoon.
Hail core was a few miles from us, so just heavy rain here for
a bit.
Google "Newcastle Oklahoma police car hit by lightning" to see
a cop car get hit about 8 miles from me. May have severe weather
later today and tomorrow, too.
Still enjoying hamword, Winlink Wednesday and a few other winlink
related nets.
That's all for now. BTU Daryl>>>
**
N5VLZ:
Bob (OK), I'll bet the electronics in that police car got fried.
FB on Hamword and WInlink Wednesday.
That's it for round 1...back to the top for final comments.
Bob (NY), I'll send out the reminder message that we won't meet
next Monday, May 26, due to the holiday, but will likely do that
late Tuesday. Anything else for us?? >>>
**
NS2B:
Carl, I heard on the news last week that some state is making
people remove grass from their lawns and stop watering. I think
it was Colorado? I can't remember.
Bob(OK), just watched that video. Did they say the vehicle still
ran??
That's it for me Daryl, everyone have a good week - 73 >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Bob (NY), I've heard of the "don't water" days, but never to
remove grass!! I would be surprised if that police car was usable
anymore, as all the cars are full of electronics now. Thanks for
being here.
Tom, I didn't mean to skip over you, but you beat Bob (NY) in
here tonight. Anything else for us?? >>>
**
KE4QCM:
no problem Daryl, have nice visit with your brother Charley and
good luck with 44 net. I have been experimenting with 44 net also,
looking forward toAtlanta hamfest on June 7 and Field day June 28/29
BTU Daryl 73 GE All >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Tom, thanks for being here.
Charley, anything else for us?? >>>
**
NT5R:
Tom, interesting re Atlanta hamfest. Last year visiting brother
during Field Day weekend and we went out with local group. Put up
dipoles up in your TALL pine trees. Good group.
Everyone have and awesome week, try type at you in couple weeks,
73 >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Thanks for being here, Charley...safe travels as you head back to
Missouri.
Carl, anything else?? >>>
**
KX4AC:
I have not heard about that here but we do have "don't water"
days.
**
KF5TVG:
That poor cop car... I doubt there is a single system in it that
still works. Suspect it will be sold for scrap... or perhaps
dropped in a local lake to become "fish habitat"!
That's all from here. Hope all have a great week!
73 and BTU Daryl>>>
**
Thanks for being here, Bob (OK). You're probably right about the
cop car!!
I saw where Carl disconnected, so that will do it for tonight's
PCL Net.
Remember, we will NOT meet next Monday, May 26, due to Memorial
Day, and we hope to see everyone on June 2. Have a safe and happy
holiday weekend, and remember the true meaning of the day. Thanks
to the veterans who are serving, have served, and to those who
gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy.
73 and GN DE N5VLZ -- see you on June 2 >>>
