Hi Dave and all invisible hams,
Now it's making sense, correct, packet is doomed unless 32 bit user programs
are developed. Make that 64 bit and add a bunch of other digital radio
software, even 32 bit OS is being phased out.
Oh I already know that Winpack and FBB are compatible, I have been using it
for years and as ex sysop of the regional radio BBS I know it uses FBB over
DOS. Yeah DOS, ancient but extremely reliable and pretty much bulletproof,
ideal for a remote location. Oh thanks for mentioning that BTW, there may be
a survivor who doesn't know.
A little more detail on WHY packet is doomed as in above, the few new sysops
out there don't have a clue and one missing clue is dig up some old software
and have a go. My old sysop Ray VK2TV built an APRS node without a power
hungry computer and is working on a BBS tossing the carbon dog a Raspberry Pi
bone but not all of us are so geeky.
In the name of Packet I salute thee Queen Julia!
