Hi,
A while back I had problems uploading and downloading mail and bulls from
my bbs using compression in winpack.
I am pleased to say I solved my problem and it has not come back since but
a fellow ham has a similar problem and I wanted opinions on my diagnosis
of what happended with me and if my theory is possible or if I am talking
rubbish!
The problem: When uploading/downloading mail winpack connects to bbs and
starts as it should - then shortly after entering transfer mode bbs
reports an error and disconnects.
History: I had been happily uploading/dowloading using compression for a
few weeks. The problem seemed to occur after I had a failed
upload/download bbs session through a mains power cut at home.
My Theory/Solution: The theory I have on this is as follows - in the
initial session that was cut short winpack and bbs were going along
happily but then it all went wrong my end - when power was back on winpack
assumed that the bbs did not get the message so left it to try next
session but the bbs had got some of the message and it was allocated a
message number so on every attempt to resend the message after that
winpack was throwing the message at the bbs but the bbs was saying hold on
I already have that message number and reported an error. I thought I had
tried everything and sent many messages to sysops and other users for help
but no-one really had any ideas. The solution I found (by luck) was to
manually go into the bbs and delete all mail waiting for me to download
and also delete all mail in winpack waiting to forward - run a bbs session
- and then start again and this seemed to sync everything.
NOW! there are 2 reasons for this bull:
1) To ask you guys if that theory is possible or am I talking rubbish?
and
2) If anyone has similar problem it may just help them out...
