Sheer luck, I should imagine!

The fact that you don't understand why it has worked for 13 years says to 
me that you're not actually "getting" the advice you're being given and why 
the BBS Prompt setting needs to more accurate.

It is quite obvious that messages contain the same string as your own BBS 
setting in WinPack - this is a sign that your configuration is wrong - No 
matter how long it was worked for.

Have you changed your setting to something more "picky" ?

I'm sure you are aware that you do not need AGW unless you wish to use 
either a TNC device or your computer's sound-card as a TNC.  WinPack will 
quite easily operate in Telnet Host Mode but from your earlier messages it 
sounds like you've gotten into a right pickle with your configuration and 
installation of it all ;)

I take back my earlier statement: There are no daft settings.

Only daft operators ;)
