Hi Bob,

Reading about your Laptop troubles....

Make sure the Winpack file packet.ini is NOT read only type, so your
changes do get saved.

Yes if you don't have AGWpe up and running before Winpack runs, then
Winpack will not be happy (assuming that you have AGWpe selected as a host
mode). Being able to save the packet.ini file (don't have Winpack running
while you do any direct editing of the file as Winpack automatically
over-writes the file every time it closes down) with a host mode other
than AGWpe may be what you require. This got me into a pickle until I
realised how G4IDE had arranged things. Maybe host mode "none" might serve
if you are not able to set host mode "telnet" in the packet.ini without
software error message?

I do use AGWpe with the LU7DID DLL for running an AXIP connection over my
home LAN, so I open AGWpe & let AGWpe open Winpack for me and I use the
Winpack-wait program to give things a bit further start-up settling time.
I use AGWpe 2002,10 version because older versions would not support an
AXIP port over a LAN. I don't use newer versions of AGWpe because some are
a problem with "memory hogs" and 2002,10 is going great.
With the AXIP connection I monitor Packet traffic from my DOS Xrouter PC
with radios & TNCs connected.

To make a connection I do use Winpack-Telnet to connect to port 2323 of my
DOS Xrouter PC. I have Options, enable-autoTelnet selected.

Before I had the radios set up at this QTH I did use Winpack-Telnet with a
dial up modem and it worked fine (apart from YAPP, compressed uploads &
compressed downloads not working). I have saved the script files I used,
but don't have a copy of the packet.ini unfortunately. I expect it
wouldn't have a host mode of AGWpe.
