Ray, Here is what is on my screen BEFORE I hit the Bulls' Head and flag
the messages I want. This came down as soon as I booted up Winpack:

QUOTE::

Hi All,

I've never been able to successfully use YAPP with Winpack over Telnet, it
gets so far and stalls. Likewise, compressed upload/download is a failure.

With regard to unproto broadcasts. They don't work over the internet in a
broadcast fashion, like they do on RF. My telnet users do the same as my
HF users, connect and list headers. With telnet the connection speed is
such that any performance degradation is close to nil. On HF at 0k3, FBB
sends an almost continuous stream of headers, in the case of a station
that hasn't connected for a while. In my early days of HF I timed a
continuous stream of headers for seven minutes! (this was after I disabled
the WDT to see how long a transmission would last). Not unexpectedly, the
receiving station missed some and it started all over again. I don't
accept unproto requests on HF or before...........etc.

Re Bob's system and BBS prompts, I sent Bob screen dumps of my Winpack's
configs way back, must be two years or more, and they've worked fine until
recently. That nobody else is reporting the problems Bob is seeing would
more than suggest the problem is his end and I'm sure Bob agrees with
that.

A thought, Bob. Did you install any new software about the time Winpack
started playing up?

Cheers ... Ray vk2tv

UNQUOTE:

I take it that this was the message with the missing text, but what is it
doing on my screen as soon as I connect and before I hit the BULL head and
flag the bulletins I want? Is this the missing text? If so the question
arises is why does the text disappear when I down load the Bulletin in the
usual way?

Re new programs, the answer is "yes" all the time. Every time I see
something in the music line, and for photography and many other programs,
games, you name it. One thing that does click is that I got a Trojan which
took the opportunity of getting in while I was changing AV software. I got
rid of it OK, but whether it did any damage I could not say. That could
have been round the time when I started having problems but I can't really
remember. Everything else works perfectly, and Spybot and ACAST do not
pick up aything. I did try a free trial on another program which told me I
had 756 problems on my computer, fixed 6 of them and demanded $59 to fix
the rest. I deleted that one. I think it might have been Registry
Mechanic.
Cheers,
Bob VK6BE.
