So, why not test it first for compatibility then?
http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
Install Virtual Box on Vista and then XP inside Virtual Box.
If everything runs as expected you can get rid of Vista, or even better
Vista AND XP and use Linux instead ;-)
