Hi Trev. I've just read your bul and here are my experiences. I do run
Winpack, regularly, on Windows XP Pro and must admit when it was first
installed it had a couple of problems that, with the help of Geoff,
G7SRI, were soon resolved. I have not had a problem now for ages.

I did try Winpack on Vista but had loads of problems so I took it out
again. Now, I have recently installed it again from the correct self
extracting program, then I copied my running copy of Winpack to a pen
drive, copied it from the pen drive to the newly installed Winpack on
Vista. A bit long winded I know. But it appears to work perfectly, and
saves setting everything up from scratch.

I also have on both machines in the C: root a file called Winpack.Loc
and in it two lines thus:

  C:\Winpack\
  D:\Winpack\Pub\ for XP and,

  C:\Winpack\
  C:\Winpack\Pub\ for Vista.

(I think that is just to tell the PC where my public folders are.)
Don't forget the back slash at the end of the lines of text.

Next I have a DOS folder, if there isn't one make one. In it
put a file named Winplog.Cfg and in it goes the line,

  c:\winpack\text\autolog.txt

I have that because I use that facility of Winpack.

  I also have an Autoexec.Bat file and in it is the line;

Set ExternPath=c:\winpack\Extern (I think this is for External addons?)

Using those I've not had any problems of late. I've used Winpack set
to run in Win98 compatibility mode and used it without setting it
to compatibility mode, on both machines, and not noticed a tad
of difference in the running of the program. I do hope that is
of some help Trev. My regards and....
