Most folk I know don't entirely use auto Microsoft auto updates. 99%
of these are security updates, including some of which are 8-10 megs in
size! A computer would be bulging at the seams with all that rubbish
downloaded!
However if one has a good anti virus program, such as AVG Free, why does
one literally hundreds of individual virus fixes.
Some like myself have for years taken the option of allowing the titles
only to be downloaded and then untick 99% that come in and thus do not
down load. That keeps that pesky message away that your computer is at
risk.
However I do allow some, by leaving ticked, updates other than security,
such as functional items and auto daylight saving settings updates But
certainly not the XP3 update which on one computer resulted in my having
to re-format the hard disc.
After a month or so, one only receives one or 2 now and again,so it
is then no strain doing the unticking routine. Be sure however to tick the
option of not receiving the unticked ones again!
