Hi all,

Sometimes a virus disables critical systems so you have to haul the drive before the magistrate in the Court Of Last Resort, wipe it clean and reinstall everything from scratch. That's why I have armor plated my machine with redundant backups on separate drives (one USB only connected during backup and restore) because nasties have a bad habit of propagating across drives. All my software installation files are isolated one way or another (some on CD) but nothing is foolproof, that's why I have a guru in case this fool really gets stuck. He had to take it to court where I lost much, live and learn, so I did all I could to prevent such loss in the future.

"I'm not even sure the link was provided by
Avira, it might well have just been made to look like an Avira popup window."
That's exactly what a rogue is, I almost got fooled by one imitating Spybot S&D. At the last moment I realized the installer executable had a slightly different file name from the proper one so I didn't run it. I deleted it and ran the real one, all is well.

That's an interesting story about the Dalek that kills wasps, a very appropriate ringtone! I did a copy and paste job on that URL and managed to download the sound clip but it just happens to be on a page available only in the UK. Uh uh, "forbidden" is all I got without the specific file name so it's an orphan much like the last Dalek the Doctor encountered before the series was cancelled in the US. PBS is viewer supported and I suppose there just aren't enough fans here to bear the huge fees involved in importing current shows, all we get from the UK are those already archived and long out of date... oh well.
