Sad news to hand on the passing of John Tait VK4FUT following a heroic battle
with cancer.
John lived in Ayr North Queensland and apart from being active on the bands
for most of his years was also active within the community, being the Founding
President and past Secretary of the Burdekin Machinery Preservationists Inc
and a Foundation Member and Technician for the Burdekin Volunteer Marine
Rescue Group.
John was laid to rest at Ayr Cemetery on Wednesday February 13th following a
well attended service at Ayr Presbyterian Church.
We pass on our best wishes and commiserations to XYL Lorna and family and
believe that John will be sorely missed by all.

D-Star Repeater for Brisbane.
barc sECRETARY Kevin VK4UH recently gave a report regarding the proposed
establishment of a D-Star repeater for the area following the donation of
a number of these repeaters in a joint initiative by the WIA and ICOM
Australia.
A consortium of clubs in the South East Area was being set up by Kevin to
make this possible and already interest had been apparent from the Queensland
Digital Group, WICEN and the Redcliffe Amateur Radio Club and the support of
B.A.R.C. was sought.
A live demonstration of the new D-Star digital voice mode will be given at
the next BARC meeting.

DALBY AND DISTRICT

The Dalby & District and Sunshine Coast Radio Clubs are holding their annual
get together at Kirkleigh Somerset Dam on the weekend of the 5th & 6th of
April this year.
We extend an invitation to your club members and friends to come and join us
as we camp out and have a fun weekend,
We hope to have a car boot sale as well as other radio related activities, and
create some discussion and maybe some ideas relating to your favourite
electronic project.
We are currently negotiating for a deal for the camping fees, so we will need
to know numbers as soon as possible, and we are planning to cater for a BBQ
tea on the Saturday evening for a very reasonable $5 donation. All other
meals will be self catered.
So if you have the weekend free and wish to join in, please let us know, we
would love to see you there
Please contact Neil VK4NF on 4662 4950

10 students had commenced their advanced licence training & on Sunday a
further 10 students had commenced their foundation training.
These are the biggest classes that the club has seen and with more than
80% of students also becoming club members the club is going from strength
to strength.
With Peter VK4TGV completing his Assessor’s training, and new club members
who are currently also assessors, Chris VK4ANI and Adam VK4AI, will join
Alan VK4KZ, Laurie, VK4BLE and Ray VK4VKC (still awaiting his full call)

that this year could be a wet one given the current weather.
The Club will be operating all 6 bands in both voice & CW.
Andy also outlined his plans for a Friday night seafood nosh up prior to the
competition and Peter VK4TGV outlined the Saturday night lamb and pork roast.
If Any Brisbane amateurs wish to visit, or assist the club over the weekend,

Annual General Meeting
Our annual general meeting will be held on Tuesday 4th of March from 7:30pm
at the clubrooms 85 Godfreys Rd Bli Bli. This is an opportunity for members
to be part of the decision making team that shapes your club. A reminder
that member fees were due from 1st of January and you must be financial to
vote, nominate or be nominated.
Our last meeting featured Geoff VK4KEL provided an excellent power point
presentation on wait for it....packet radio. Yes that's right, quite a few
members are interested in packet due to its use in the Rally Queensland event
for scoring and also as a means of keyboard to keyboard comms during emergencies.

theTARCinc Committee are seeking to gauge the level of interest
in the club holding a Breakfast Sausage Sizzle onboard
Pop Sullivan's Ross River Dam Cruising Platform one
Sunday in April.
If good solid interest is shown and things go ahead then the cruise
will be captained by Roger VK4CD, will take in parts of Lake Ross
not normally accessible on a dam tour (thanks to the dam being at
full capacity) and will feature the first ever maritime portable
transmission of WIANews from a dam.
Express your firm interest by getting in contact with Tony VK4TJS,
either on the repeater or by telephone 47740582.
TARC are also calling for expressions of Interest for a tour of
Channel 10.
The proposed Technical Tour of Southern Cross Broadcasting North
Queensland Transmission Hub and Production Facility at Garbutt will
hopefully take place on the TARC Project Night April 8th and be
conducted by John Hawkins VK4KJH, one of Southern Cross Broadcasting's
very busy broadcast engineers.
For occupational health and safety reasons, covered work style
footwear is a necessity for the tour.
If you want to go and see one of the newest television facilities
in the country then get in contact with Don VK4FNQA at the Matcave
either on the repeater or on telephone 47756579.
