QNEWS BROADCAST December 21 2008
Gympie Communications and Electronics Group.
www.gceginc.org.au
Gympie amateurs are looking forward to the Christmas period and hoping that
the mid-summer does not bring more storms and havoc, as some long range
weather forecasters are suggesting.
As reported in last weeks QNEWS, the Valley Rattler outing went successfully
and nearly 50 amateurs and family enjoyed the barbecue gathering afterwards.
The response amongst the QSOs heard on 2m has been that it was an outing to
be remembered. Photographs of the day's activities have been put on the Group
web site ( www.gceginc.org.au) and more included in the newsletter QNC which
has been distributed during this week.
Amateur and clubs who wish to catch up on the activities of GCEG are invited
to download the newsletter, in PDF format, from the web site. Just remember
to enter Gympie Amateur Radio, in your search engine to find em.
A reminder to Gympie amateurs that a lunch time get together is being held
on the northern side of Gympie, at the Duck Ponds, Chatsworth on 10 January.
Gympie wish all amateurs and families the best of seasonal 73.
Call on 147.725MHz, VK4RCM if you are travelling in the area.

With some skilful use of the soldering iron, Peter VK4EA, has completed the
re-wiring of the club's radio room and the placement of a range of radios
for all emergency services including WICEN. The set-up looks quite
professional and with minimal leads is very suitable for any type of radio
use.
Charlie, VK4YZ, brought in a second hand white board and it was placed on
the wall last Monday night. Stewart, VK4TSB, is to complete some relocation
of power points in the radio room to them more accessible.
Once this is completed, the club's radio room can be used as a
"situation room" in the event of an emergency.
With the club starting to wind down for the Christmas and New Year,
club members were heard on the 10 metre contest last weekend. 10 metres
opened up to allow quite a few JA contacts on Sunday afternoon and some
ZL contacts as well. James VK4TJF was heard using both CW and phone to
enter the multi mode operation of the contest. Many club members worked
VK8AA who certainly was the BIG signal on the band.
There has also been quite a bit of activity on 6 metres and this has led to
Charlie VK4YZ and Andy, VK4KY, developing a new dual 6/2 metre antenna.
John, VK4BZ has been busy building a new 2 metre antenna that has finally
met the approval of his XYL. The holidays will be busy with the building of
a new range of antennas by many members getting ready for forecast of
increasing sunspots next year.
Early next year, the concrete path around the clubhouse will be completed
and then full wheel chair access will be available to the club.
As this is the last news item from Redcliffe for 2008, the Redcliffe club
would like to extend is best wishes to all listeners of QNEWS and its many
friends for a safe and Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year with plenty
of sunspots and little QRM.
See you in 2009.
