 Quintin Greene VK4BQG SK

It is with much sadness that we have to report the death of VK4BQG,
Quintin Greene on Friday 1st of February 2008. Quintin died in Gympie
 hospital after collapsing at home.

Quintin was a member of Sunshine Coast Amateur Radio Club and prior to that
the Gympie and Districts Amateur Radio Club.

Quintin was originally from Manly in NSW where as an Electrician by trade, he
worked as a white goods service agent for Hoover and others in the local area.

Apparently, so the story goes, Quintin was an active member of the Saturday
church group down Manly way that also had our own Frank VK4BLF as an avid
participant. Now this sounds very correct and proper, but a good source
informs me that it was called the church group because you could quite clearly
see the church from the bar.

Quintin moved to the warmer climate of Queensland some 16 years ago and passed
his Novice Theory, Morse, Regs and then AOCP Theory and Morse under the
strict supervision of Roy Winchester VK4IRW and Jack Cornes at Gympie in the
 mid ‘90’s

More recently he was quite an active member of SCARC and whenever there was
work at Mt Boulder or Mt Wolvi repeater sites up Gympie way he would always
be there. He would turn up in his 4WD more than happy to help and with a
smile and a story to tell.

You will be missed Quintin but not forgotten.

This is QNEWS from VK4WIA for week commencing February 10 2008

 Redcliffe and District Radio Club

Firstly a correction from last week’s news about the foxhunting with Roger,
VK4IPE and his wife Cecila, VK4LIZ who actually beat Charlie, VK4YZ twice to
reach the fox. Charlie is now looking at a change to his fox hunting antenna
after Roger showed his homebrew tape measure 3 element antenna.

At the club’s Wednesday morning meeting, there was a visit from the Qld Fire
& Rescue Services, 501 Tango, Operational command vehicle (communications
response vehicle). The visit was arranged by Ken VK4FKEN and his wife, Wendy
VK4FWEN and a new club member Michael Flaherty, who is a servicing fire
 officer.

Justin Francis, the fire officer in charge of the communications response
vehicle provided a detailed description of the capabilities and functions of
the vehicle and described how the on-site commander controls the fire,
ambulance and police resources at the site of a major incident.

A fascinating discussion took place about the issues with command and control
of fire assets including one to one communication with individual officers.

All enjoyed this fabulous visit and the morning concluded with tea, coffee and
 light snacks.

Please be advised that a 91.5 Hz CTCSS sub encode tone has been added for
access to the Redcliffe 70 cm repeater. This is to eliminate some data
interference into the repeater. Please update your radios for 91.5 Hz in your
 TX carrier.

 SUNSHINE COAST

Jupiter’s Community Benefit Fund and Community Gaming Grant Successes, here
 again is Gordon VK4VP

"The Sunshine Coast amateur Radio Club have previously applied twice for a
Jupiter’s Gaming grant and were unsuccessful. However the recent round of
grants saw the club very successful with a grant of approximately $37,000
awarded from Jupiter’s and a further $26,000 from the Community Gambling Fund.

The Jupiter’s funds will be used to provide 3 VHF UHF repeaters to upgrade our
aging repeater equipment. The Community Gambling fund grant will be used to
provide radios for our emergency services caravan as it is currently fitted
 out with mostly borrowed equipment.

The first TARC Management Meeting happened last Tuesday
February 5th and a number of events brought up at the meeting
in early planning stage might take off quickly.

Things like exotic boat cruises to places that haven't seen water for years,
a tour of the local place where Homer Simpson lives and what
to do with all the expensive test equipment that has just been donated
to the club are just some of the items you might have to listen out
 for in future news dispatches.

Keep a vigilant watch and prepare for action !

This Tuesday February 12th the TARC Project Night will be happening
at the Club Rooms atop SES HQ Green Street West End from
7-30pm. Come along and lend a helping hand to make something
work or be there to proclaim "It's Life Jim, But Not As We Know It !".
Bring along a project that might need some technical help ! All welcome !
