Some 35 hardy club members braved the cold to meet at the clubhouse to listen
to newly elected WIA director, Ron Bertrand who spoke, not only as a WIA
director and member of the Gold Coast Radio club but also founder of the
Radio and Electronics school, and the future of Amateur Radio.

Ron was impressed with the changes made to the clubhouse since he was last
present some 4 years ago. Ron was so impressed with the activities of the
club, he asked the question to all club members, “What is your club doing
 right?ö

In an open forum club, many club members including Andy VK4KY, Peter VK4TGV
and Club President David VK4DC, provided a large number of reasons why they
 thought the club was successful.

Ron also provided details about the licencing, examinations, 2 letter call
signs, WICEN, emergency communications and the changes since the introduction
of the “Fö call. Ron then answered a large number of questions from members
and all retired to hot tea, coffee and hot sausage rolls and party pies.

Many thanks to Ron for his talk. Both Ron and the club learnt much from the
 presentation.

Before Ron’s presentation, Andy VK4KY and Peter VK4TGV, showed members a
series of home made and modified commercial items for the holding of LEDlights.
These lights create no “rfö noise, do not attract insects and run on extremely
low power drain from batteries. Well done guys! Many members are now ordering
LED lights for both camping and emergency situations.

Congratulations to one of our club’s second group of foundation students,
Corey, VK4BTK (Billy The Kid) on gaining his Full call and his making his
first DSTAR communication with Roger VK4UPS.

As the news goes to air this morning, some Radio Amateurs in the Townsville
region are heavily involved with providing logistic communications support for
the Twin Cities Auto Sports Club King of the Hill Hillclimb on the Mount Stuart
 Road.

The operators have been on course since 7-30am manning time control
communications at the Start Line and Flying Finish and relaying competitor
 data.

They are looking forward to the break at lunch when they will receive
free monster burgers from the Hillclimb organisers before continuing to
provide the communications support needed for such an event to run smoothly.

Time to get ready for Radio Direction Finding Fun

If you are in the vicinity of the Townsville Region on Saturday
September 6th, then you will be in for a real treat as the
first in a long time of many Foxhunts will be happening.

Tony VK4TJS has planning underway for the Foxhunt (which will include things
to involve the whole family) to start from the Ross Dam carpark from 2pm and
finish at the VK4TJS Satellite Dish City with a deluxe sausage sizzle provided
 by theTARCinc.

First to find the fox wins a Dam Cruise courtesy of Pop Sullivans Tours.

To cater for the event Tony needs to know your attendance numbers and you need
to quiz Tony further regarding details about the Foxhunt.

Who do you have to call ?

Tony VK4TJS of course, on 47740582
