CLUBBING - WITH COL CLARKE VK4CSC SOUTHSIDE AR CLUB
REDCLIFFE
http://www.qsl.net/vk4iz
http://vk4rc.we.net.au
IMPORTANT changes to the Redcliffe 2 metre
The club has decommissioned the Echolink machine, moved
the IRLP node to the 2 metre repeater and reconfigured the
node as an EchoIRLP Node.
EchoIRLP is software that runs on an IRLP node and provides
Echolink and IRLP network access from the one single individual
solitary machine. That means it only needs one radio, and also
because it runs on Linux, it is also *much* more stable.
IRLP operation has not changed. To connect to a node send the
required node number via DTMF. Inbound access is exactly the
same (except the caller will be on the 2m repeater).
The node callsign has changed from VK4IT to VK4RC.
However Echolink operation HAS changed.
To connect to an Echolink node from the repeater, you must
send a DTMF * (asterisk or star) BEFORE the node number,
so to call node 22013, send *22013.
The inbound node number is the same 44666. The node allows
for multiple connections, but note that an Echolink connection
can not occur while an IRLP connection is in progress
(and vice versa)
Feel free to offer any feedback to Redcliffe’s EchoIRLP
systems operators (Steve VK4IT and Peter VK4TGV) who strive to
dedicate their time and effort in providing professional carrier
grade 24/7 EchoIRLP functionality for all amateurs.
At last Monday night’s meeting Andy VK4KY, provided members
with some important advice about using a back-up battery supply
for their amateur station.
Many gasped when Andy advised us that large jelly pack batteries
can “shortö with up to 1300 amps.
Wide ranging discussions covered carlead acid batteries, sealed
lead acid batteries and jelly packed batteries, the differences
between them, safety aspects, their different usage and how each
should be looked after.
Andy pointed out that the charging needs of all batteries are
different and careful planning must be undertaken before
setting-up, purchasing and maintaining battery back-up supply
for your station.

The VK4RTA repeater is back online.
Trevor VK4ZFC has spent many hours rebuilding and fine tuning
the cavities to obtain optimum performance.
Trevor also set up and fully aligned the transmitter and receiver.
VK4RTA consists of a Phillips TX-814 transmitter and a RX-814
receiver into a ZCG Co-linear antenna. The output power of the
transmitter is 61 watts and the receiver sensitivity is 0.8 microvolt's.
5/9 plus reports have been received across the area as we heard
in the WIA National News earlier.
The guys will also have a powerpoint presentation about VK4RTA
available soon.
