TOWNSVILLE
As Qnews goes to air this morning many Radio Amateurs have been enjoying
Radios in Paradise as part of the Far North and North Queensland Amateur Radio
Get-together (FNNQARG pronounced Fun-Quarg) being held this Long Weekend
at Cardwell Village Beachcomber Resort.
Many hams have been onsite since mid week setting up their salubrious canvas
mansion ham shacks or mobile ham-shack chariots in comfy positions and dodging
the occasional light shower whilst taking in the panoramic view of
Hinchinbrook Island.
During Friday afternoon more hams arrived along with the Trailers O
Treasure and the TARC Van.
Saturday went like a blur with the Navcom equipment stand doing a brisk
trade aided by the ICOM Australia and Vertex Standard Australia teams up
from Melbourne to thaw out in paradise. Some lucky hams onsite got to try out
D-STAR, more lucky hams had some very enjoyable ARDF sessions and some
extremely lucky people got to go on the Reef Safari Sangria Cruise of
Hinchinbrook Channel.
Fred Swainston VK3DAC was there meeting up with many northern hams.
The after dinner D-STAR presentation by Peter Willmott and Richard Hoskins
and the TREC Trivia Challenge were both well attended and appreciated by all.
Today after the news everyone will be out front of the resort on the
sea-side park to participate in the 25th anniversary North vs Far North Cricket
Match, umpired with consummate skill by Rossco VK4AQ.
There's bound to be many technical and social discussions way into the evening
and many fond farewells will take place tomorrow morning after all the packing
up has been completed.
If you are travelling through the Great Green Way between Townsville and Cairns
be sure to drop in and say gerday !
Well there we be that's what is happening .. a wrap of the active clubs in
VK4 We'll do it all again next week.. I', m Kay vk4vks for qnews
