The Gladstone Amateur Radio club will hold its Annual General meeting at
7:30 PM Monday Evening, may 5 2008 at the S.E.S. Headquarters Lamington
 Drive Gladstone.

VK4JWH John is just one of 3 members of the Gladstone Amateur Radio club who
are also members of the Gladstone Vintage Car Club.

 Phil VK4KLF, Kurt VK4TKU and John VK4JWH.

On the weekend of the 12/13th of April, VK4KLF and VK4JWH went to a small
place by the name of Tegege (near Bundaberg) for a yesteryear old machinery
 rally.

Phil took a couple of old Villers engines and an old Ronaldson Tippet air
cooled type N farm engine. john a 1½ HP Fuller and Johnson hit and miss engine.

On the way down to the rally, they were in contact with hams in Gladstone on
the 146.900 repeater and nearer on the 146.800 repeater. It was good to be
able to talk to the Bundy folk about the old engine rally and everybody was
interested in the adventure said John.

A bit of difficulty with Phil’s trailer meant major welding to get it home
again, carrying yet another RT engine from a swap meet there.

Over the years, 4JWH has been able to combine amateur radio with vintage cars,
whenever possible trying to make vintage mobile contacts.

The third Monday night for the club is the very popular technical talk and at
last Monday night’s talk Phil Grimshaw, VK4KVK presented a well received talk
about antennas with special focus on restricted space antennas.

One antenna that sparked a lot of interest was the small scale G5RV antenna.

Phil also explained the mysteries of the J pole antenna.

Some 30 club members and visitors enjoyed the discussion and the club wishes to
thank Phil for his talk and the discussions on antenna theory that it promoted.

One of the visitors to the club last Monday’s night was the father of club
member Stuart, VK4TSB. Reg, VE3FFI, from Toronto, Canada arrived in Australia
last week to see the Australian branch of the family.

Reg was impressed with the Redcliffe club and was looking forward to visiting
 Stewart’s property in central Queensland.

Following on from the antenna discussion, Our own club Myth Busters, Andy VK4KY
& Peter VK4TGV will rerun part of Andy’s last antenna tech talk on Feed Lines
losses & talk on the benefit of different HF home brew antenna’s available,
 including doublets / G5RV’s etc.

Performance data & supporting photos will be included in this presentation
including the 3 mono-band yagi antennas used during the John Moyle field day.
While Peter, VK4TGV will be showing how we get great signals on antennas
installed on 16 perches of land.

This will be a night not to be missed as some of the myths will be settled
once & for all. The next technical talk night is on Monday 19 May 2008 and
all amateurs in the area are invited.
