 Kirkleigh Gathering 4,5,6 of April.

Well I would say it was a great success with nearly 50 people in attendance
from 5 different clubs and even a few non club members.

A few people camped over for the 2 nights and there were also quite a few day
 trippers on the Saturday.

Some valuable treasure was exchanged with the folding stuff from the car boot
sale and it appears sellers and buyers were pleased.

 70cm Repeater 438.075

Today our new Vertex Standard UHF repeater and commercial cavities were
installed at our repeater site at Wilkes Knob. This is one of the Repeaters
purchased with the Jupiter's Gaming Grant funds. Also a 1000 Amp Hours of
batteries were also delivered which should keep it on air for a while during
 blackouts.

We have a 6dB gain commercial Collinear antenna at about 25m above ground level,
but we are contemplating a slight realignment of the antenna Improve coverage
 to the North.

Ahoy to scurvy landlubbers from the TARC Dam Cruise

Ahoy to scurvy landlubbers from the TARC Dam Cruise.

In the Townsville area this news transmission has been happening
from VK4WIT, maritime mobile during the Cruise on Lake Ross.

All the budding mariners were at the Dam car park by 7-45am before
the gates were closed and have been onboard the cruise since 8-30am,
taking in a wonderful travelogue given by Captain Roger VK4CD.

The cruise has taken in picturesque tropical fjords, bountiful nature
breeding grounds, forbidden shorelines not normally accessed by boat
and the edge of the world (a.k.a the Ross River Dam). Its expected
that the cruise will finish up a little after 10-30am, giving plenty of
time for you to call in on the callbacks to find out if VK4WIT is still
 afloat - arrrrrr !

Operators needed - no experience necessary !

Club Station VK4WIT to be activated for a contest and you are needed !

The 2008 VK/Trans-Tasman Contest aims to be a reasonably short event
but give the operator a challenge of HF operating and contesting.

This will give an opportunity for those without the equipment, antennas
or licence to get some on air experience.

The contest is on Saturday 10 May from 1800 local to 0000 local.
It operates in one hour blocks.

If you'd like to come and make some contacts then contact the man
with the plan Steve VK4SJW on 2m or on 4772 3767 or vk4sjw@wia.org.au
to confirm a time slot. Full calls are welcome too.
