Whispers On The Ether
A New Harmonic !
News of the production of a New Harmonic has reached the News Desk.
It's congratulations to Ellen and John VK4AFS of Wavell Heights
on the production of New Harmonic Julius Francis Stevens on 9th March.
Apparently the production has a bit of a story with a twist about it - and
a happy ending! For more quiz John next time you see him!
John VK4TJ is planning on running a 2-day Foundation licence course + exams
in Toowoomba, on a weekend to be mutually agreed between participants.
If you know of anyone who is interested in getting their Foundation licence,
have them contact VK4TJ as soon as possible.
If the timing isn't right, but the will to get licensed is, have them
drop an email anyway. John say's there is not sufficient demand in Toowoomba
to schedule regular courses, but, quote " I can be convinced by as few as
2 or 3 to schedule something."
Standard & Advanced exams can be scheduled on demand.

Have you been working towards your WAQ Award?
Well it's time you threw out your tally sheet and started afresh!!!
John VK4AJS has told QNEWS contacts made prior to 15th March 2008 will NOT
be considered as valid contacts, regardless of whether the particular shire
was amalgamated or not.
You see due to the recent Queensland Shire Amalgamations there are now just
73 Shires / City Councils. This meant that the WAQ Award had to be updated
to reflect these changes.
Contacts made after the 15th March 2008 will count towards this award.
Contacts made prior to 15th March 2008 will not be considered as valid
contacts, regardless of whether the particular shire was amalgamated or not.
A good place to look for contacts would be the 80m nets, which take place
most evenings from many different areas of Queensland. The club call back
after the rebroadcast of WIA NEWS on Monday nights on 3.605 MHz and
The Jack Files Memorial Contest would also be a good hunting grounds for
different shires. Some amateur stations will from time to time travel to rare
shires to activate them for WAQ award hunters.
There should be no problem reaching the initial level required to have a
certificate issued. So why no give it a go and take the opportunity to add
this certificate to your collection. A copy of the rules and a WAQ log-sheet
with all the new shires listed is available from VK4AJS or VK4DMC for your
convenience.

REDCLIFFE
8 Foundation students attended last Sunday exams held at the clubhouse at
Kippa Ring commencing at 0830 am and by 4.30 pm, all students had successfully
completed their exams.
The club wishes to thank all the assessors who attended and especially Laurie,
VK4BLE who came to the club to supervise Peter VK4TGV, conduct his first
assessment and ended up staying and assisting the rest of the assessment..
All the assessors worked in teams to get all the practical exams completed so
as one student was completing the setting up of the radios another was on the
2 metre repeater while another was identifying different types of antennas.
The majority of the students were also in attendance at last Monday's night
meeting night and with 40 members in attendance, standing and talking room was
at a premium.
It was good to see Wendy, VK4FWEN down at the club house to use the new
concrete paths and according to her husband Ken, VK4FKEN, Wendy raced her
wheelchair round and round the club house and enjoyed not having to go
"cross country" to get inside. In fact, quite a few of the member's wives and
girlfriends were in attendance and many joined the conversations around the
clubhouse on antennas, radio equipment, morse code and computer programs etc.
Next Monday's night meeting is a general meeting and all members are invited
to attend.
