A very successful AGM was held at the clubhouse with a large turn up.
When business was finalised the members and guests were able to join in a
BBQ with all the relevant goodies and liquid refreshments.
Some had travelled a long way so the BBQ was good for them and others to
 catchup with everyone once again.

Don't forget the Queen's Birthday weekend camp over at Sharp Park and if you
are interested in camping then contact Dave vk4ao and he will give you all
 the information.

If you would like to see the park then log onto the club website
 www.goldcoastamateurradio.com
Go to the link and you will see the lovely place by a stream where you can
 camp.

Once again if you know of someone who would like to obtain their foundation
licence then contact Roy vk4ig and he will be able to give you all the
information. classes are held each Monday evening depending numbers and
exams can be taken at a time to suit you.

Channel 14 UHF CB call "CQ MERGE"

Listeners may remember the announcement last year that a
“Catastrophic DisasterÂö was to take place on the 1st of April 2007 in
 Maryborough, Queensland.

It was of course an exercise by the Maryborough Electronics & Radio Group, and
in accordance with the exercise plan, members of MERG ( Pronounced “MERGEÂö )
gathered up bits and pieces which may have been lying around after such a
disaster, and made their way to Anzac Park, where they made up antennae and
other equipment to get radio transceivers up and running.

This resulted with such items as Vhf & Uhf Antennae made from Wire coat hangers
and modified TV antennae, a catamaran made from two canoes, complete with VHF
Marine radio, various wire antennae and a number of power sources.

MERG advises that the “Catastrophic Disaster ExerciseÂö will be held again this
year, on Sunday the 6th of April, immediately following the Sunday morning
 WIA Broadcast.

Further details will be announced next week or may be obtained by contacting
 Ray Stockdale, VK4TPT, vk4tpt@bigpond.net.au , or Phone (07) 4123 2958.

As this news goes to air, 10 Foundation students are undertaking their formal
assessment at the clubhouse after a break of 2 weeks. About two thirds of
these students were involved the John Moyle weekend on the radio with an
experienced club member to assist in the event that there was a problem.

Besides a few little problems the students acquitted themselves well and
should have that extra confidence to easily pass the on-air part of the
 assessment.

Graham, VK4GJH showed the video he took of the camp and antenna setup of the
John Moyle at last MondayÂ’s night meeting and it was well received by all
and the photos from the weekend are also being collected before sorting and
loading on the club website and the composing of an article for AR magazine.

The club conducts a game of trivia on its 70 cm repeater every Wednesday
night starting at 7.30 pm with call-ins about 5 minutes earlier. The game
usually finishes about 8.25 pm and all are welcome to join in and learn a
lot or even just a little.

 Annual General Meeting
Our annual general meeting was be held on Tuesday 4th of March and I guess
we were doing a good job because the committee members are all the same as
last year with 1 position swapping.
President is Noel VK4NL, Vice President is Frank VK4BLF, Secretary is yours
truly Gordon VK4VP, Treasurer is Keith VK4AKA and the following are there to
provide the food and drink for our committee metings, did I say that.. Ray
 VK4YRS, Harvey VK4AHW, Mike VK4YFL and Richard VK4YRP.

 Bon Voyage - sort of..
Recently one of our clubs long standing members and his wife decided to move to
a tropical island that features a Claret drinking pirate.
Angus VK4KMC and Liz have moved to the peace and quiet of Russell Island in
Moreton Bay. Angus can still access the club repeater so we have regular updates
 from the balmy isle.
