 QNEWS BROADCAST NOVEMBER 22 2009

Congratulations to all those who responded to Graham, VK4Baker Baker's
call for members of the broadcast industry to get behind the WIA
National News microphone. Further congratulations to Graham for
organising what is probably a first, certainly for the Brisbane, VK4
area, the rebroadcast of the whole news on the 4TAB DAB+ channel.

The delegates to the President's Lunch with whom I have had a chance to
talk were impressed with the enthusiasm of the event. The participation
of delegates in the discussions were built upon by being able to
individually raise issues of interest with the speakers. Not only that,
the represented Clubs were given copies of the new promotional posters
and the centenary pin was available for purchase.

I believe that the Institute is addressing many issues and seeking to
facilitate updates in the hobby and so expect over the next months to
have further announcements via WIA News, on the pages of /Amateur
Radio/ magazine and the WIA web page.

As the holiday period rushes towards us, have a look at the merchandise
available from the WIA Bookshop. If you haven't caught up with the news
yet, copies of the new centenary year call book were expected at the WIA
office, Friday 20th. If clubs can order by the box, they save the cost
of delivery! Tell your treasurer today!

Hi I am Ray VK4CF with news from Redcliffe Amateur Radio Club for QNEWS.

Jota de brief – Club secretary, Peter VK4TAA, reported of a fantastic
success of the JOTA weekend despite the hot and dusty conditions. The
weekend was well supported by our club members with about 50% of club
members or about 60 members assisting in some way to make the weekend one
to be remembered. Over 300 visitors attended the site and club members
assisting in building over 120 kits.

Each year there are improvements to be made and these will be implemented
to maintain the focus on the enjoyment of the scouts. Please watch the
AR magazine for the club’s article on the weekend.

The club will hold its Xmas party on 12/12/09 for a lunch time start around
11.30am – Rotary Park, Woorum, on Bribie Island. This is on the surf side
of Bribie Island. Toilets & electric BBQ’s available.

It’s a BYO function but unfortunately the location is not listed as an
 IOTA site.

Scott, VK4FLAE , is currently looking about the possibility of a visit by
the club to the Brisbane the airport control tower tour. Please stand by
for all the dates early in 2010.

James, VK4TJF, the AWARDS and QSL MANAGER, has advised that two
REDCLIFFE CITY awards will be issued to Doug VK4KET and one to Glen VK4FZ on
the 23rd of November. Remember if you would like to achieve one of these
awards please check out the details on the club’s web site. James has also
provided details of purchasing very professional QSL cards for $140 with the
club logo on them and an aerial view of Redcliffe on it. $140 for 1000 cards
that's just 14 cents per card! Great value!!, Please contact James for more
 details.

The Centenary Call book is available by ordering from Peter VK4TAA at
$27 from the club, which is a $5 saving on individual purchases to the
WIA & allows for a small profit to the club. Peter would like orders by
 28th November please.

Until next time, I’m Ray from the Redcliffe club and your listening to

 December General Meeting

This months meeting is on the 1st of December and is the Christmas BBQ
meeting. The meeting starts at 6pm and will be very quick. Generally the
onions start cooking at about 6:20pm and as we all know, that is a wonderful
smell around dinner time. As that aroma wafts through the club, President
Noel, VK4NL, has a difficult time keeping members focused.
Members to bring a salad or Dessert, everything else is provided.

 Busy Club Members

The club was involved in quite a bit of activity last weekend. First there
was the Gold Coast Hamfest to get to on Saturday, then Sunday morning was
the Global Simulated Emergency Test which started in the wee hours, followed
by the clubs 3rd Sunday of the month BBQ social meeting. And if that wasn't
enough one alcoholic sugary type that had been to all of the other events,
went to the Presidents Lunch in Brisbane on Sunday.
 Well done guys.

 WIA Grant Success

The club was recently awarded a $500 grant in support of developing better
HF capabilities to further involvement in such events as the recent Global
Simulated Emergency Test as mentioned above.

 Thanks to the WIA.

Until next time, this is Gordon VK4VP.
