With two more weeks to JOTA and only 10 weeks left before Christmas, 2009
seems to be raging to a climactic finish. Two dust storms to celebrate
Spring, fire bans and scrub fires and an tsunami around Samoa, it has
been a few days of different weather around the Oceania region.

Daylight saving is around the corner for much of the country and those
of us along the coasts are getting ready for the official cyclone
season. The areas that benefit from extended daylight hours have little
reason not to check their homes and stations, things like guys and
brackets and loose feed cables. Those of us in VK4 just choose a time
when the sun is not too strong to get these checks done.

As mentioned on WIA National News, previously, the AARNIE newsgroup,
aarnie(AT)yahoogroups.com, moderated by Adam, VK4IM has increased my access
to AR news and projects considerably. Not only does "Amateur Radio"
magazine arrive in the letter box but I now get to read e-mags such as
"World Radio Online" and "Ham Mag", both in PDF and full colour, for
free. As well many clubs are posting their newsletters on AARNIE and
this goes to support the efforts of the WIA broadcast team in keeping
 members of the hobby informed.

One thing that is easily forgotten is that Amateur Radio forms a large
international community which tries to include all members regardless of
wealth and rank, religion or race, health or infirmity. Ours is a
century old pursuit that has always tried to think globally and act locally.

 October General Meeting

This months meeting is on 6th of October and features Frank VK4BLF as guest
speaker showing photos and discussing his recent trip to Asia.

Unfortunately yours truly, Gordon the Secretary has to go to Victoria for
work. This also means that there will be a stand in news broadcaster so lets
hope they can get it right.

Last weeks news had a slight hiccup when a slamming door in the house shook
the news PC and it decided to mute the audio, nothing a spare PC and a few
moments of high blood pressure couldn't fix.

 Sunfest 2009

Well it was a great success with many people securing bargains and feeding
their faces. It was a great place to catch up with many friends and swap
stories and we hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed hosting it.

Until next time, this is Gordon VK4VP.
