Hello Everyone, this is Wireless Institute of Australia, Queensland Advisory
 Committee chairman Don Wilschefski VK4BY.

I am pleased to advise that the WIA Queensland Club President's lunch will be
held again this year. WIA President Michael Owen and Vice President Ewan
Mcleod will be attending and will address the group after lunch.

The lunch will be held on Sunday 15th November at the Geebung- Zillmere
RSL club. The Geebung Zillmere RSL club is in Newman Road Geebung. The doors
will open at 11:00am and a set lunch will be served at 12:30pm. The meal will
be an alternating roast beef and roast chicken meal, that will be served to
the tables. Cost for the meal is $15- per person.

The Wireless Institute of Australia will pay the cost of the room hire. There
will also be a bar service.

To reserve your place, please email Don Wilschefski VK4BY at qac(AT)wia.org.au

Special dietary requirements can be catered for. If you are arriving by plane
or train please advise, and transport to the venue may be organised.

As in previous years, the intention is for one or two representatives from
each radio club to attend, where possible. This is a good opportunity to
discuss issues with the President and Vice President of the WIA.

Numbers will be required by Monday 9th November.

I look forward to seeing you there.

The unseasonal hot weather has made life interesting throughout
Queensland, to say the least. However, there has been one outcome around
the Wide Bay area which has yet to be exploited by many operators. The
weather systems have been producing quite an amount of ducting, at 2m.

Last Sunday evening I was able to have a QSO with Paul, VK4FPWA on the
Bundaberg City Repeater. Paul is in Maryborough and, of course, my QTH
is Gootchie. Later I was able to talk with Harvey, VK4AHW from Buderim
North on the Hervey Bay Repeater. Although I was able to key the
Gladstone Repeater, I couldn't get a response from any one; similarly
Rockhampton repeater was giving a strong return signal.

For the many new operators who may have never experienced the phenomonon
of ducting, it is exciting to find signals travelling hundreds of
kilometres. The great thing for foundation licencees is that 5 or 10W
is more than adequate to work DX at VHF.

This is a great incentive to get the gear "on air" for the summer season
with the possibility of transequitorial contacts on 10m, and the fun
of the chase on the 6m, 2m and 70cm bands.

 Good DX! Geoff Emery vk4zpp

 Redcliffe and District Radio Club

I'm Ray VK4CF with news from the Redcliffe AR Club.

Firstly, it is with sadness I report that club secretary Peter VK4TAA lost his
father suddenly last weekend. The club wishes to express its sadness to Peter
and his family and hopes to see Peter back in the club quite soon.

Last Monday night’s meeting included the usual 4 th Monday night included a
fox hunt but this time the hunt was conducted on a local large tree and grass
area near the club. The coolness of the evening assisted the running but
mostly walking members to find the fox. There were no visits from the local
 constabulary

James VK4TJF is currently looking for a suitable electrically quite location
with some height within about 1-2 hours drive from Redcliffe so he can set up
portable station to enter some of the international DX contests. The site
needs high trees and good take off possibly on a hill. If you know a
promising site please contact James via the club website.

It has been good to hear Gary, VK4FGAZ, from Stanthorpe on the club’s 80 metre
net for the last couple of Sunday nights and also during the week as well.
The doublet antenna is certainly working well into Redcliffe and Gary is able
to hear many signals thanks to a very quiet location.

A reminder that the club conducts a trivia contest every Wednesday night
commencing at 7.30 pm on the club’s 70 cm repeater. Join in and for an hour
try to beat the quiz master. Please don’t forget to insert a 91.5 Hz dtmf
 tone to access the repeater.

So until next week, for Redcliffe club I'm Ray VK4CF and you've been listening
 to QNEWS from VK4WIA.
