Volunteers play a vital role in our local communities, and volunteering
is even more important in these challenging economic times. Volunteers
donate their time, skills and understanding to our most vulnerable and
disadvantaged Australians, including the homeless, children at risk, and
older Australians. In times of disaster, volunteers are out in force
helping people in need and assisting communities to recover.

These are the opening words of the brochure outlining the guide lines
for volunteer community grants from the Commonwealth Department of
Families, Housing, Community Services and Indiginous Affairs, for 2009.
This is a program aimed at supporting community organisations and the
volunteers that they engage and applications close on 25 September this year.

This scheme is currently being considered by the members of GCEG, Inc
and here is a way for all clubs who meet the criteria to be able to fund
 items to assist their members.

GCEG conducts its weekly net on the Mt Corella repeater, VK4RCM,
 146.725MHz at 7.30 p.m. each Monday.

 Lighthouse Weekend and RD Contest

SCARC participated in both of these recent events and we had many new F calls
and soon to be F calls on the air over the weekend. Wayne VK4WS coordinated
the RD contest from the clubrooms while Leicester VK4ALH was in charge of the
old Caloundra lighthouse activation. At the lighthouse we were lucky enough
to have a skyhook for our 40 and 80, antenna provided by a nearby resident on
the 8th floor of an apartment building.
