 DALBY AND DISTRICT
 ervons@bigpond.com.au

The Dalby & District and Sunshine Coast Radio Clubs are holding their annual
get together at Kirkleigh Somerset Dam on the weekend of the 5th & 6th of
 April this year.

We extend an invitation to your club members and friends to come and join us
as we camp out and have a fun weekend,

We hope to have a car boot sale as well as other radio related activities, and
create some discussion and maybe some ideas relating to your favourite
 electronic project.

We are currently negotiating for a deal for the camping fees, so we will need
to know numbers as soon as possible, and we are planning to cater for a BBQ
tea on the Saturday evening for a very reasonable $5 donation. All other
 meals will be self catered.

So if you have the weekend free and wish to join in, please let us know, we
would love to see you there

 Please contact Neil VK4NF on 4662 4950
 			Or Email holmzie@bigpond.com

 Redcliffe and District Radio Club

At last Monday night's meeting 2 surprise visitors from the United States
 arrived at the club.

John, K8UP and wife Marsha, N8FE, the parents of James, VK4TJF arrived from
Michigan USA, last weekend to see how their "baby" son was going and to find
out all about the Redcliffe Club.

Both John and Marsha applied for and have been granted VK call signs before
the latest changes to the LCD were implemented.

So if you hear John (VK4AIJ) or Marsha (VK4AII) around the bands over the
next few weeks please say "Good day" to our visitors.

Both John and Marsha plan to lots of DXing during their stay especially back
to the USA and are a real Ham family with both Mum Dad and both their boys
 ham operators.

John is the District 2 Emergency Coordinator for 6 separate counties in the
State of Michigan and a lot of information was exchanged on how emergency
services work in the US and how it works in WICEN.

Marsha is the editor of the "Zero Beat" magazine of the Hazel Park Amateur
radio Club and an assessor for amateur licences. Ideas were exchanged about
training and examinations and Marsha was very impressed about the practical
aspect of the Australian licensing system which is not part of the US system.

While the visitors were being entertained, John, VK4YJB showed the 5 minute
set up of the full size 20 metre beam that will be used during the John Moyle
Contest and then elevated it 10 metres into the air.

Its planned to have the beam between 15 and 20 metres in the air on the top
of a crane truck for the contest, so listen for the "Big" signal from VK4IZ
of all hf bands and also on CW as well.

has put out the call to action for hams to help out with
communications for the 2008 Mount Stuart Rally Sprint

greatly expanded with at least 12 operators
 required for this event.

If you are in town during that weekend, please contact
Ray VK4NET soonest with an offer for support during both
 days of the event.

VK4ZZ BBS closes, VK4ZZ APRS Igate opens

As we heard from Kylie during the National News after about 15 years the VK4ZZ
Packet BBS in Townsville has closed, in its place, the VK4ZZ APRS Igate.

The Townsville APRS Igate is online and on-air 24 hours a day, runs on
battery powered radios and computers using uiVIEW32 and supports APRS Messaging
 service.

The radio port is accessible on 145.175MHz at a speed of 1200baud and runs
a squelchless TNC using TF firmware for maximum sensitivity and speed.
The internet port is linked via broadband service to the APRS server in Sydney.

For those stations wanting to play APRS using uiVIEW, a series of
calibrated maps for the program can be downloaded from the Documents section
 of theTARCinc website www.tarc.org.au
