 GYMPIE
 www.gceginc.org.au
 Geoff Emery vk4zpp

The proposed shift of the Gympie Easypal SSTV system to the QTH of Bob, VK4MR
has been made and the hope is that with the higher elevation a much wider
coverage will be achieved. Testing is going on to ensure that all the
facilities will be available from the Ham Fest at Gootchie, next Saturday.
Come and meet the author of Easypal, Erik, VK4AES.

Any clubs who are getting their applications ready for funding from the Ergon
Community Grant Scheme should drop by the Raintree Electronics and Solar table.

The GCEG members are getting gear ready for hamfest, both for the
demonstrations and the preloved goods for sale. The catering crew are trying
to estimate the food supplies they need as the interest keeps growing.

The Sunshine Coast Amateur Radio Club has donated a raffle prize for the
Wide Bay Mini Ham Fest..... tools that any handy person will appreciate!.

Some people have been asking where is Gootchie? It really is simple to find!
Go to the VK4 Club pages on the WIA web site and zoom the map to show
Maryborough in the north and Gympie to the south. Just south of Tiaro, on the
A1, Bruce Highway, you will see Gootchie. Look for the Hamfest signs and
yellow distance markers along the road on Saturday next, July 25.

This is an important day on the ham calendar with ALARA celebrating 34 years
of growth and the commencement of the worldwide D-Star Contest and the
 Wide Bay Mini Hamfest.

For more details go to www.hamfest.org.au

As Ray, VK4TPT put it last week, the Wide Bay Mini Ham Fest is not so mini
 anymore.

 MARYBOROUGH RADIO AND ELECTRONICS CLUB
For more info, call Secretary Kathy Johns 040-939-8853
 Email: kathy.johns(AT)bigpond.com
Channel 14 UHF CB call "CQ MERG"

From the Maryborough Electronics & Radio group, I'm Ray, VK4TPT.

Well, we've been giving out information on the Wide Bay 'mini' Hamfest for
some weeks now, and Geoff has told you all how to get there, so perhaps I can
let you know what MERG ("MERGE") will be doing there.

At the MERG ("MERGE") table there will be information on the club and licence
 training and assessment.

Also an ECHOLINK station along with the portable broadcasting station, in use
at the moment to send the news.

MERG ("MERGE") has been asked to clear Bernie Burgess, VK4IB-SK's, radio
equipment so that will be there.

Each side of the MERG ("MERGE") table will be Van, VK4VAN and Ray, VK4TPT,
(Good grief, that's me!) with tables full of pre-loved radio equipment and
 accessories.

Kathy, VK4KJ, and her team will be in the kitchen, making and serving food and
 drinks.

And,if that isn't enough, all the MERG ("MERGE") members who attend will be
running around, manning the entrance table, selling raffle tickets, directing
traffic and what ever else is required.

A few OPTIMISTS even hope to look around and pick up a bargain or two!

 See you all there.

 This is Ray, VK4TPT

 Redcliffe and District Radio Club

Hello I’m Ray VK4CF with news from Redcliffe Radio Club.

Last Monday night‘s meeting, John VK4YJV reported that he has built a
replacement 2m antenna that is ready for deployment this week. There are
still some issues with the 70 cm antenna but he has assured the meeting that
he is working on a solution.

The third Monday of the month is the ever popular Technical Talk. Next Monday
night Peter VK4XPJ will discuss circuit board manufacture & David VK4DC will
discuss issues relating to Silver plating.

Forward planning for future technical talks are, August by Peter VK4EA on

Peter VK4TAA advised that recently items sold from the club at basement price
turned up on Ebay at a few thousand % mark up. While this practice is not
condoned, please do not on sell for personal profit. Items provided are
donated to the club for both club/member activities or club revenue raising
 and not for personal profit.

John VK4WX advised the meeting that he had received a big thank you from the
Lismore club members when they joined last month’s tech talk. They were also
impressed with the layout of the club’s radio room.

So until next week, for Redcliffe club I'm Ray VK4CF and you've been listening
 to QNEWS from VK4WIA.

 Noosa Bike Enduro

The club was hard at it again last Sunday for the Noosa bike enduro.

Noel VK4NL was securely ensconsed in the communications van (for reasons later
to become clear)and quite a number of club members manned checkpoints
providing safety and co ordination messages back to base. One member noted
that the Kin Kin pub was open nearby to the checkpoint he manned. There are
now many offers to man that particular checkpoint next year.

Well done to all that helped out.

 Sick Call

The club has a number of members at various times that are recovering from
various ailments usually related to their occupation or advancing years, but
this month we have one that takes the cake.

A man always wanting to be in the news has been bitten on the leg by a horse.

Some were concerned about how this person was, but the majority are concerned
about the poor horse that most likely regrets ever having a piece of this
 person.

Who is this mystery bite ee?

Well if you took the word nag and replaced the AG with OEL you would have a
good idea. Yes never one to be outdone by colds, flu, lung transplants etc
our own Noel VK4NL is in the wars, on crutches whining about his leg like the
 best of em.

Until next time, this is Gordon VK4VP from the Sunshine Coast Amateur Radio
 Club.
