Bob vk4bt and Sue vk4st moved from Sydney to Mt Tambourine in yr 2000.
recognizing the Height above sea level would be ideal for Amateur Radio
Reception and sending, Bob built his antenna for that purpose and was
very successful in pursuing his hobby.
His life in Sydney was with Cars having served as Service Manager for
reputable firms such as Jaguar and Rover, also Peugot and Renault and
later in Health food businesses. Bob and Sue became Host Family to
Japanese Students who came to the Gold Coast to learn the language here
and Bob became very fluent in being able to speak fluent Japanese as
a result of attending language classes .
Bob was always a ready and willing volunteer for any help asked for
at club level and for private members to aid them in the hobby. He was
a highly respected member of the Gold Coast Amateur Radio club ,
generous and loyal to all as he persued his beloved hobby of Amateur
Radio. He became Treasurer to the Gold Coast Amateur Radio club and
served on other committees happy to serve where needed. He was a WIA
representative
His sudden passing was a shock to all who knew him.

As last Sunday's news was going to air, an intrepid group of volunteers from
GCEG were hard at work. On what started out as a cold morning, the heat of the
bbq gave a welcome warm up and the cool air held the smell of sizzling
sausages for customers at the Gympie Melco Hardware store. Led by the
treasurer, Barry, VK4KKN, the food supplies were virtually gone by midday and
Barry was last seen smiling his way to the bank with a wheelbarrow full of
takings. Thanks for the effort, guys.
And just to keep that smile on the treasurer's face, Barry is looking to
exchange your money for a receipt, as membership fees are now due.
For all clubs serviced by the energy supplier, Ergon, if you aren't aware
there is a community grants program sponsored by this company. If you have
considered green initiatives for your club this may be a way of applying for
funding. Does your repeater network serve the local community in times of
emergency? Then your club may be eligible to apply. You must hurry as
applications close at the end of July. Contact Ergon Energy or download the
application pack from the address given in the text edition.

>From the initial meeting through incorporation and affiliation with the WIA,
to successful club outings and the search for club rooms; from the
establishment and proving of AX.25 packet around Gympie to the setup of an
Easypal SSTV simplex repeater system it has been a year of growth, learning
and experiment for the GCEG members.
Rumour has it that several Gympie members are dusting off some of their hidden
treasures for sale at the Wide Bay Mini Ham Fest being held at Gootchie on the
25th of this month.
Remember each Monday the GCEG net is held on VK4RCM, 146.725MHz at 7.30 p.m.
and the next meeting will be held on 6th August.

The Wide Bay Mini Hamfest at Gootchie on the 23rd of July is proving to be
somewhat of a misnomer.
There will now be 5 Trader tables, 3 Club tables, a WIA table, a couple of
community organisations and several Amateurs with Pre-loved gear.
This has filled the hall, but the organisers are still receiving requests to
take part.
So, there will be a Car-Boot section outside, along with static displays from
the S.E.S. and Rural Fire Service.
A wide range of hot and cold food and drinks will also be available.
While this event will be largely Amateur Radio related, it will also include
Alternative Energy, Other forms of Radio Communications, Satellite T.V. and
Internet and General Hobby Electronics.
Add to this the S.E.S., R.F.S. and the Queensland C.W.A. and perhaps it should
be renamed "The Wide Bay Radio, Electronics and Family Day".
Remember the date and time: - 0900 hrs, Saturday the 25th of July at the
Queensland C.W.A. Hall, GOOTCHIE, between Gympie and Maryborough.
Further details can be found on www.hamfest.org.au

Redcliffe and District Radio Club
www.redclifferadioclub.org.au/
Hello I'm Ray VK4CF with news from Redcliffe Radio Club.
John VK4YJB, with the assistance of Andy, VK4KY and Peter, VK4EA have designed
a new antenna for the Redcliffe repeater site. Over the past 3 years, the
repeater site has suffered a number of different problems with the 2 metre
side of its repeater antenna.
This time with a much better design and certainly a lot cheaper than the
commercially available antennas, John has built a 2 and 70 cm corner reflector
style antenna. The new antenna will be installed in a couple of weeks. So
until then, the temporary antenna will be in operation. This is why the
recent coverage of the repeater has not up to the standard what it used to be.
Further details of the new antenna system will be provided in the next few
weeks
The club will be reading the national news for Sunday 26 July. The recording
of the news will be on Wednesday 22 July at the club house starting about 7pm.
Full details will be provided to all club members at the next club meeting on
Monday night 6 July.
You might have heard a strange call sign on the repeater over the last few
weeks, but don't be concerned it is just Roger, ex VK4UPS, who now has the
call VK4TV. Roger brought to the club last Monday night his homebrew tv
transmitter which he intends to use at the club's display at the Caboolture
Aircraft Museum's open day on Sunday 2 August 2009. Next week further details
will be provided about this fascinating day of military and war birds display
to be held at the Caboolture airport. Roger also plans to televise the popular
monthly Technical Talks held at the club so the club can reach a much wider
audience in the Brisbane area.
So until next week, for Redcliffe club I'm Ray VK4CF and you've been
listening to QNEWS from VK4WIA.
