 QNEWS BROADCAST June 28 2009

 COBRS

City of Brisbane radio club went to Bunya Mountains for the winter field day
 and had a great weekend,

We had 1296 , 70cm and 2m stations and despite being winter we worked quite a
few vk2 stations as well as vk4,s. The furthest sydney and taree.

The weather was a mix of heavy fog mist rain and wind , but at least it kept
the 4metre qld python quiet as he had his nest in the middle of our stations
and was not going to move .

The club is having an antenna building day soon to provide members with 70cm
and 2m yagis and get a few more involved with ssb on uhf/vhf.

The club meets on the 2nd tuesday at ground floor block b at
 mt Gravatt TAFE

Perhaps it is the cooler weather that is causing people in the Wide Bay area
to become more active. Last Saturday Maryborough Electronics & Radio Group
ran a successful project day. Greg, VK4FGDW, from Gympie, was one participant
who assembled a 250W precision 50ohm resister into a die cast box with finned
heat sink and came home with a station accessory that will last a life time.

Club treasurer, Barry, VK4KKN has recruited some volunteers to commence some
fund raising for future projects and if you are feeling the cold a little when
you go to the hardware store in Gympie on Sunday July 5, you can be assured
that Barry and his team will be able to warm you with a freshly cooked
 sausage.

And just to keep the ball rolling and promote the hobby around the Wide Bay
area an informal think tank has been getting local clubs preparing for a mini
ham fest to be held late in July. A venue has been found and a local business
has promised sponsorship. Keep tuned for further updates on this exciting
 venture.

The comments made on the Monday night net were of great enthusiasm for the
idea of a local get together where hams and others can get to eyeball each
 other.

The committee of GCEG had this and more fund raising on its agenda on Thursday
night as well as moving forward the 70cm repeater project.

The Monday night net is held at 7.30 on VK4RCM, 146.725MHz and the next
monthly meeting will be held at 7.30 p.m. in the basement rooms of Leading
Edge Electronics, Reef Street, Gympie this coming Thursday, July 2nd.

Hello I’m Ray VK4CF with news from Redcliffe Radio Club.

Last Monday’s fox hunt was postponed due to heavy rain and so members divided
in to the many interest groups and discussed everything from satellite
communication to antenna construction. John VK4YJB was bitterly disappointed
that the fox hunt was cancelled as he had just built a new antenna and now
will have to wait for another month to test it out.

It was also a sad night as it was the last night for Gary VK4FGAZ, wife Anita,
and family Lauren VK4FLMC and her brother Shaun before they relocate to a much
colder Stanthorpe in the next 2 weeks. Gary has plans for a very large
doublet antenna and hopes that his HF signals will bigger and better. He also
plans to a regular on the club’s 2 metre Sunday night net via echolink.

At least Gary and the family are remaining members of the club which caused
club secretary Peter VK4TAA to remark about the wide spread nature of the club
membership. With members in England, Victoria and North Queensland as well as
the greater Brisbane area, club membership has risen to 110 members.

Next Monday night’s tech talk will be presented by Ron Merring VK4DD who is
coming to Redcliffe and District Radio Club. Ron’s topic will be VHF
Amplifier Construction. This will be a very informative evening. Ron also
has a fantastic web site with all the details of his amplifiers, so for a
preview of just what Ron will be discussing just google VK4DD. The
presentation will commence about 7.30 pm and all amateurs are invited and
welcome to hear Ron at the Redcliffe club house at Klinger Rd. Kippa Ring,
 McFarlane Park Redcliffe, QLD 4035.

The club has also been invited to read the national news for Sunday 26 July
so club members are practicing their microphone skills to once again present
the news. Full details will be provided to all club members at the next club
 meeting.

So until next week with a synopsis of Ron’s presentation, for Redcliffe club
I'm Ray VK4CF and you've been listening to QNEWS from VK4WIA.
