 GYMPIE

 Geoff Emery vk4zpp

It's nice to be able to offer a welcome at the beginning of the Gympie Amateur
Radio news. This week, GCEG is pleased to welcome 2 new members to the group.
Gavin, VK2FGLA/4 and Dave VK4TDJ joined the group at last Thursday's monthly
meeting. Glad to have you on board, Gavin and Dave.

The good news on the equipment that GCEG received from Sunshine Coast Amateur
Radio Club is that it appears that Gympie is heading towards once again having
an operational 70cm repeater. GCEG already holds the licence and now it is a
matter of completing the formalities with QTAC and ACMA and another facility
will be available to amateurs in the Gympie area.

For those who think that Morse Code is dead there is plenty of activity to be
heard in the CW sections of the bands. To help any one wanting to refresh
their skills or indeed to learn Morse, our senior member, Alan, VK4AEB is
offering coaching and without a computer or decoding device to be seen.

Any one wanting to participate in the survey on how the Wireless Institute can
better promote the hobby can obtain the form from the GCEG website or
alternatively if you have a point that you would like included in the group
 submission, please contact Geoff, VK4ZPP.

On the sick list has been Jason, VK4MIH who has suffered the attack of one of
the seasonal viruses. We wish you a speedy recovery, Jason.

Remember that the weekly club net is conducted at 7.30 p.m. on Mt. Corella
repeater, 146.725MHz and this is informally followed by SSTV activity via the
 Easy pal system.

 LOGAN WEST
 IRLP node 6402

Meeting day:- 1st Wednesday of every month (except January)

Good Morning Listeners this is Peter VK4OD

Last week I asked for some assistance with our communications for the 21st
of this month in which the Logan west Amateur Radio club is suppling
communications for the “Big Country Endurance Horse rideö, which is held in
the Spring Mountain estate South East of the Greenbank area. To those that
replied I say thank you, however to ease the load on those that are
committed we would like some more operators.

We are in need of some more assistance from the Brisbane, Ipswich and
Gold Cost area Amateurs, and or CB operators. The newly issued F call
operators are more than welcome to participate.

If any operators have a potential new candidate for the F call etc bring
 them along for the training.

Most of the check points last for about 3 hours or so.

Due to the higher cost of Fuel, vouchers will be the order of the day.

If you can assist please call me on 0418 188 688 or Email to

 Redcliffe and District Radio Club

Hello I’m Ray VK4CF with news from Redcliffe Radio Club.

The club’s AGM will be held on Monday 15 June 2009. The meeting will commence
at 8 pm with the voting-in of the new committee.

There is also a reminder that membership fees are due, and these fees can be
paid before the meeting. Members are also reminded to bring a plate for
 supper after the meeting.

4 assessors and 7 students were at the clubhouse last Sunday to conduct
foundation licence exams. 6 out of 7 students passed their theory exams.
The student who missed out, missed out by only one question and he said
that he would be back to get it right next time.

All students then completed their practical exams. One successful student was
the daughter of club member’s Graham, VK4JGH and Margaret VK4MH. Mum and Dad
were certainly proud of their daughter, Elizabeth and were certainly pleased
to have another amateur in the family.

Peter VK4EA, undertook the difficult task of ensuring that all the paperwork
and monies were completed correctly. After a 9 am start, all students and
assessors finally left the clubhouse by 4 pm, tired but pleased with the day’s
 results.

Currently club members are currently assisting in providing communications
with the Sunshine Coast Radio club for the Great Queensland Bike ride. The
bike rally commenced at 8am this morning and Redcliffe club members are
monitoring the bike route from the start in Brisbane to Caboolture before the
Sunshine Coast members look after the cyclists until they reach the Sunshine
 Coast early in the afternoon.

Last Monday night an impromptu satellite communication demonstration was set
up by John VK4BZ. Last Monday night 3 satellites passed over Brisbane and
John was successful in contacting 2 of the three satellites. One contact made
was to Bob VK2AOR via the Fuji Oscar 29. Members were certainly impressed
with the contact but were disappointed as John was not able to contact the
 international space station.

So until next week with the details of the new committee, this is Ray VK4CF.
