DARLING DOWNS RADIO CLUB
wibvk4(AT)bigpond.com
This club is one which is charged under the Constitution to disseminate
knowledge in radio and electronics. They like to encourage enquiries to
our hobby, and in their ranks you will find most facets of this hobby
expressed.
Some of these are modern computer influences in contest logging, vintage
radio restoration, antennas, VHF and UHF operation, construction,
crystal sets, valve operation and much, much more.
If you are interested in it, you will find a kindred spirit in their Club.
You will also find interesting lectures by club members and non club members
as well as occasional outings to places of interest.
Darling Downs Radio club meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each
month, except for December.
Second Monday is a Management Committee Meeting.
Fourth Monday is a Social - Technical Meeting.
The Club meets at 7.00pm local time in the Club Room, SES Headquarters
172 Stephen St [Anzac Avenue end of Stephen St],Toowoomba and everyone
[including visitors] is welcome to all meetings.
The Darling Downs Radio Club has 2 regular Nets as follows:
Each Sunday morning at 10:00am there is a 2m net using the Club's call sign,
VK4WID, held on the Club's repeater, VK4RDD, on a frequency of 146.750Mhz.
Each Saturday evening at 7:30pm there is an 80m net on 3.587MHz [+ or - QRM]
under the Club call sign, VK4WID, and is mostly hosted by Theo, VK4ESK.
All are welcomed to join in, especially new licensees.
Darling Downs have involvement on a regular basis from amateurs who live as
far apart as Ingham in the North to Evans Head in the South.

GYMPIE
www.gceginc.org.au
Geoff Emery vk4zpp
At the monthly meeting of the Gympie Communications and Electronics Group,
a decision was made to upgrade the existing Slow Scan repeater run by
Roger, VK4BNQ. With a continuing interest being shown in this activity by
group members and others, it was felt that resiting the repeater to a higher
position at Chatsworth would enhance the effective service range. Erik,
VK4AES, author of Easypal, is actively involved in fine tuning his software
as a result of the local amateur activity and the latest version of Easypal,
with the repeater facility, is available from download from the GCEG
web site, SSTV page. (http://www.gceginc.org.au/sstv/sstv.htm).
Unlike a conventional half duplex repeater, Easypal is operating on a store
and forward basis where the received images are displayed on the web page.
This is providing the members the opportunity of sharing and viewing images
regardless of their licence grade.
Around the Gympie area we hope to see you on 145.625MHz for some digital
SSTV fun.
The digipeater for emergency packet use remains on standby and has proven the
coverage available from the Chatsworth site.
Currently Gympie members are maintaining skeds with VK4KEV who is mobile
through the backblocks of Queensland and South Australia enjoying his
honeymoon with XYL, Gudrun.
Last week, we mentioned the Catastrophic Disaster Exercise run by the
Maryborough Electronics and Radio Group.
One of the monitored activities was Ray, VK4TPT using a tree in the local
park as an antenna on 40m. At the risk of spoiling good operating practice,
maybe Ray will now be known as VK4 Tree Powered Transmitter.
MERGE
As VK4ZPP said Ray TPT did use a "trrr trunk" and next week right here
he will tell how!!! So tune back.
