Last Sunday a new antenna was installed at the Redcliffe repeater site.
Charlie, VK4YZ and Ray VK4CES, (yes Ray has had 3 different callsigns in 3 days
!) were up the pole fitting the new antenna while Roger VK4IPE and Gerry,
VK4UGB directed operations from below. The new antenna seems to providing
greater coverage than the last one and dey hope that this will be the last
trip up the pole for some time.
Last Monday night, 40 club members were shown how the new antennas for the
John Moyle Field Day were constructed. John VK4YJB showed the simple
construction methods and assembly of the antenna using currently available
materials.
Andy, VK4KY provided a detailed examination of the theoretical and design
parameters of the antennas. He also outlined the simple matching system for
the antennas. Each of the 10, 15 and 20 metre antennas have no coils,
no baluns and are simply matched to 50 ohm cable with wide band width and
excellent forward to back ratio and very good gain.
More details will be released in the new few months after extensive testing on
the field day.
There is a further call for CW operators to visit and assist the club over the
weekend, please advise Peter VK4TAA via the club’s website for further details.
