Forecast Discussion
Today, a low to our north will extend a strong cold front across the state. This front will bring plenty of convective activity. This activity will come in the form of rain showers, heavy at times, or strong thunderstorms with strong winds, small hail, and frequent lightning. Overnight, most thunderstorms died off as they hit the Green Mountains in VT, but given daytime heating today marked by the frontal passage this afternoon, there is a high chance for activity which coincides with what model soundings in Berlin (KBML) are suggesting. The summit in the summer acts like a catalyst for thunderstorm creation as well, so if the summit itself does not get anything, surrounding summits might, especially east and south of here where heating will be higher. After the frontal passage, temperatures will begin to drop which will hit the freezing mark around sunset, so any lingering showers may contain sleet or freezing rain. Overnight, showers may mix with snow before ceasing completely as a clearing trend begins as high pressure builds. Brief high pressure will crest on Wednesday providing a sunny but brisk day on the summits. Wind chills will be 10-20 above by sunset, 5 below to 5 above overnight, and 5-15 above by sunset tomorrow.
